Sheinelle Jones found herself in a tricky situation upon returning to Today after her long weekend.
Jones was absent from the Monday, June 8, episode of Today With Jenna & Sheinelle, with Savannah Guthrie filling in for her alongside Jenna Bush Hager in Studio 1A. She returned to the show on Tuesday, June 9, and filled in for Carson Daly during the show’s 7 and 8 a.m. hours.
Behind the scenes of Tuesday’s episode, Jones took to Instagram to share a funny backstage moment. “Hi, everybody. This is Kelly,” she stated, after which her co-worker shouted, “We’re not going through the garbage!”
Jones went on to explain the situation, telling her followers, “We are in the bathroom of the Today show, upstairs. And I was washing my hands, as you should after you use the restroom, and my ring fell off in the trash can. And so, I’m in here, by myself, like, crying because it’s in there.”
Jones said she suggested that Kelly get a clothes hanger to help pick the ring out of the trash. Instead, Kelly suggested they ask another colleague named Nelson for help. “Who’s Nelson?” Jones asked. Kelly replied, “The guy who cleans for us. He solves all of the problems.”

Jones went on to ask, “Can we get a hanger please?” Kelly exited the bathroom to fulfill Jones’ unique request. At the end of the video, Jones asked fans, “What would you do? We have to go through the trash. We’ll be right back.”
Jones did not specify whether her ring was her wedding ring or simply one of her accessories for the day. As of Wednesday, June 10, she has not shared an update on her lost ring.
While filling in for Jones on Monday, Savannah opened up about hosting Today as the investigation into her mother Nancy Gutrie‘s disappearance continues. (Nancy has been missing from her Arizona home since February.)
“I cry every morning on the way to work, and I cry every morning on the way home,” she told Bush Hager on Monday. “And I’m grateful to have good friends and to be able to come to such a beautiful and joyous and supportive place.”
In an interview with Page Six published on Sunday, June, 7, Jones and Bush Hager opened up about how the Today cast and crew have continued to support Savannah amid her family’s difficult time.
“We’re going to rally around our sister. She rallied around me. We know how to do that here,” Jones said, referring to the support she received after her husband, Uche Ojeh, died at the age of 45 in May 2025.
Bush Hager, for her part, stated, “Every day we were thinking about her. How could we not talk about it? It was what was happening off camera. We’re not going to act like things are OK if they’re not. We’re bringing ourselves to the audience. It was a really hard time because we adore her so much, and it still is.”
