Guy Fieri has hosted a number of shows for Food Network. This includes Tournament of Champions, which recently returned for a seventh season. During a recent interview, he talked about what it was like behind the scenes on the show, explaining that it isn’t an easy undertaking for many chefs.
Guy Fieri Recently Talked About Tournament of Champions On Rob Lowe’s Podcast
Fieri is a restaurateur and television personality who became known for his work with various Food Network shows. Some of his shows include Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Ultimate Recipe Showdown, Guy’s Grocery Games, and Guy’s Family Road Trip.
Fieri also created and hosts Tournament of Champions, which made its debut in 2020. This series sees winners of other cooking shows come together and compete in a single-elimination tournament.
Fieri recently talked about what goes on behind the scenes as he sat down to chat on an episode of the Literally! with Rob Lowe podcast. This comes off as the show kicked off its seventh season in early March.
Starting things off, Fieri assured that what happens on the show is exactly what fans see on their screens. He explained, “Live audience. What you see is what you get. No bulls***. No changing the rules. No changing the clock.”
“And this thing called the randomizer that creates the criteria, no two competitions will ever be the same. There’s nobody that could be sitting at home or in their kitchen saying, ‘OK, if this, this, and this happened, this is what I would do.’ It’s impossible because you never know what’s going to be on the randomizer.”
According to Fieri, the show is also “life-changing,” as it helps to highlight some of the most talented chefs in the world. However, he warned that these chefs also have to be tough to handle the show.
Fieri continued, “You gotta really have a backbone about you. You gotta really have truth and belief in yourself to go and do this because it’s scary.”
Fieri Assured That Things Get Tough, But He Still Loves Being Part Of The Show
Describing the effects the show has had on chefs, Fieri told Lowe, “People get PTSD from this. It’s gnarly, gnarly, gnarly.”
When it comes to what fans don’t see at home, Fieri also assured that accidents happen, and emotions run wild. There’s crying, things getting knocked over, and people “finding their higher power.”
Weighing in the good with the bad, Fieri also assured that he was happy to be part of such a series. He shared, “To be the ringleader of this is an amazing opportunity. It’s what I love so much about what I do, and I would have probably been done a long time ago.”
