Kelly Ripa is a woman of many talents. However, during a recent share on Live! With Kelly & Mark, her skills on the road were called into question. However, it was another person’s reaction that really stole the show. Following that, one person might have added another twist to the story.
Kelly Ripa Recounted A Story About A Drive During A Recent Episode Of Live! With Kelly & Mark
Ripa has worn many hats throughout her career. As an actress, one of her most famous roles was playing Hayley Vaughan on the soap, All My Children. It was there that she met her future husband, Mark Consuelos, who also played her love-interest on the drama.
However, many know Ripa best for her work as a co-host on Live!, taking over for Kathie Lee Gifford in 2001. Working alongside a number of figures, her husband, Mark, would become her official co-host in 2023.
That said, Ripa has one critic questioning her talents when it comes to one skill: her driving abilities. This was TV producer Michael Gelman, who serves as Live! With Kelly & Mark‘s executive producer.
During a recent episode of Live!, Ripa herself joked about a drive home from Long Island where she claimed that Gelman passed her on the road. She recalled, “Let me tell you about the lead foot of Michael Gelman. I was breaking the law, but I was following the car in front of me.”
According to Ripa, Gelman’s driving style made the trip faster than expected. Speaking with Mark, she shared, “We made it home in record time. But it was wild. He was also changing lanes illegally. He was flying through the lanes.”

The camera then panned to Gelman, who then offered his own perspective concerning the story. Amused by her version of events, he shared, “Kelly, you are looking through a different lens. You were driving like this,” while mimicking a driving action. He continued, “Very slowly, like she’s never driven before, like a Manhattan woman.” He added, “She’s not a big driver, Mark.” When Kelly appeared to take offense at a “Manhattan grandma” comment, Gelman claimed this was something she previously said to describe her own driving.
During this conversation, however, Mark got up and walked away from his seat. In essence, he felt it was for the best not to get involved with the conversation.
The show shared a clip of the conversation on its Instagram page. Adding to the conversation, Michael’s spouse, Laurie Gelman, teased an unconfirmed twist to the story, “Truthfully, I was probably driving.”
