USA’s ‘Anna Pigeon,’ Ricky Gervais & His ‘Alley Cats,’ ‘Sugar’ & ‘Raising Kanan’ Finales

Trading the big city for the open-air grandeur of Montana (though filmed in scenic Calgary), Chicago P.D.‘s Tracy Spiridakos is now wearing the uniform of a law enforcement park ranger in a series based on Nevada Barr’s bestsellers. Those pining for USA’s once-thriving brand of “blue-sky” escapism (White Collar, Monk, Royal Pains, etc.) will welcome this mystery series, which opens with Anna investigating the death of a fellow ranger who appears to have been mauled by a mountain lion. “Something feels off,” she says, and she’s usually right. Most weeks she gets an assist from FBI agent Frederick Stanton (Ronnie Rowe), who takes a special interest in keeping the restless Anna, who’s still recovering from a personal tragedy, from leaving Glacier National Park anytime soon. Reservation Dogs scene stealer Paulina Alexis co-stars as her ranger protégé Zoey Bear Child.

Alley Cats

“We’re all future roadkill, aren’t we?” muses fat cat Gus (Ricky Gervais), spouting the mordantly amusing worldview of an animated comedy created, written and directed by Gervais. Gus and his fellow feral felines hang out in an abandoned basement, watching the telly and musing about life and sometimes death with profane language that could make a dog howl. (They’re especially rough on the domesticated Ponce, who lives with humans, wears a collar and, to everyone’s derision, has been neutered.) Over six brisk episodes, we enjoy their company while they adopt an adorable lost kitten who’s looking for its home but may have found one, however disreputable.

Sugar

Blurring genres from neo-noir to pseudo sci-fi, Sugar ends its second season by leaning into its fantastical roots. Having resolved his season-long case, alien-in-disguise John Sugar (Colin Farrell) confronts his existential crisis (“Is this what it is to be human?”) and fulfills his film noir destiny by confronting his love interest Charlotte (Laura Donnelly) over whether she is in fact his own femme fatale. Where she leads him, however, is nowhere he could have predicted.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan

The fatalistic Power prequel reaches its sure-to-be-bloody conclusion in the Season 5 finale, which sets young Kanan Stark (Mekai Curtis) on the path to becoming the stone-cold killer played as an adult in the OG series by executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. With the body count rising as Raising Kanan nears its end, it’s Kanan’s drug queenpin mother Raq (Patina Miller) who’s got the most to lose.

Age Inappropriate

Is age just a number? This unscripted relationship series puts that theory to the test, following the emotional ups and downs of five “age-gap” couples, including 74-year-old New Orleans kidney doctor Eric and 33-year-old Tynisha, who, after three years of marriage, begins to wonder why her name isn’t on the deeds of their home or in his will. Tampa couple Brooke, 47, and Kai, 28, became OnlyFans creators after bonding over shared trauma, causing concern in their families. And so it goes. Or doesn’t.
