Boy Meets World star Trina McGee just teased a surprising new career with Sabrina Carpenter, who got her start on the spinoff Girl Meets World. But was she really a backup dancer for the pop superstar?
On Tuesday, June 2, McGee, 56 — who played Angela Moore on the ’90s sitcom — took to social media to “confirm” that she was part of Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet Tour, which ran from September 2024 to November 2025.
“Is that Angela from Boy Meets World?” a fan asked in the accompanying video. The clip showed Carpenter singing “Espresso” while a woman, who looked like McGee from afar, wore a sparkly costume with an elaborate hat, and danced/posed next to her.
“Yes, being in this tour was one of the highlights of my year,” McGree responded on Instagram. “Can’t believe you caught that. #trinamcgee #wellness #love #peace #livewell.”
Carpenter sometimes invites surprise guests to join her during shows — like Susan Sarandon, Madonna, and former Girl Meets World co-star Corey Fogelmanis at Coachella. So it wouldn’t have been completely out of the question for McGee to make a cameo. However, that didn’t seem to be the case.
In the comments, some of McGee’s followers were floored by the unexpected “reunion” between her and Carpenter. One wrote, “Girl, you’re a literal goddess, OMG 😍.”
Another shared, “Love it! And Trina McGee didn’t age one bit. Time stood [still.]”
Someone else exclaimed, “Looking phenomenal!!”
However, others caught on to McGee’s sarcasm, with one pointing out, “The amount of folks that fell for this caption and outted themselves … nasty work, Ms. Trina.” To that, McGee replied with a series of laugh-crying emojis.
A different Instagram user wrote, “Trina, you play too much. That’s too funny. I had to zoom in for verification 😆.”
Meanwhile, another fan commented, “Ms Trina, you are mischievous and funny, and you’re very talented. Anyone who knew you can see if it’s you.”
McGee played Shawn Hunter’s (Rider Strong) girlfriend, Angela, in Boy Meets World from Seasons 5–7. She later reprised her character in the spinoff series Girl Meets World in Season 2. Meanwhile, Carpenter, now 27, played Maya Hart, the best friend of Corey (Ben Savage) and Topanga’s (Danielle Fishel) daughter, Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard) in Girl Meets World.
Boy Meets World aired for seven seasons from 1993 to 2000. In 2014, Girl Meets World premiered; it aired for three seasons before ending in 2017.
