TV and radio personality Wendy Williams has recently been the subject of headlines concerning her guardianship following various health issues. However, the star herself and her family has recently spoken out about her situation. A legal expert has recently weighed in on the issue.
Both Williams & Her Family Have Spoken Out About Her Situation
Williams, best known for hosting The Wendy Williams Show, has been under a guardianship following a frontotemporal dementia and aphasia diagnosis. However, in recent months, there has been some concern over her situation.
This discussion was especially brought to the forefront after Williams called into a radio show, The Breakfast Club. At the time, she compared her situation to being in prison. Similarly, over the months, members of Williams’ family have also shown concern over her situation.

However, it’s recently come to light that Williams’ family possibly has the power to change things. According to The U.S. Sun, a legal expert suggested they could end the guardianship by taking the issue to court, especially if there are issues with her current guardian, Sabrina Morrissey.
California attorney Goldie Schon discussed the issue. As she noted, “I totally understand the position that the family is in, and this need to fight for their sister and their family member.”
Schon noted they could have a case if “the guardian is not doing what she’s supposed to be doing,” “slacking on her duties,” “mismanaging Wendy’s funds,” and “not providing for Wendy’s care in the required fashion.” She added, “If the guardian is not providing information, is not allowing access to Wendy on a free basis, that’s a problem.”
If there isn’t a valid reason, Schon noted, “The family should petition the court, which they are absolutely allowed to do, in order to question what is going on with the guardian.” Afterwards, the court could decide “whether or not the guardian should be replaced with another guardian, or whether the guardian should be terminated.”
Williams Herself Should Also Have The Power To Petition Her Guardianship
However, Schon believes it’s unlikely the guardianship would end completely. At the very least, it could prove to be a challenge.
Schon noted, “I don’t believe that the guardian is going to be terminated. If there’s a problem with this particular guardian, then I can see something possibly change or be modified, but I will say, getting a guardian removed is not an easy task, and it will be very difficult to do.”

Added to this, Schon believed Wendy should be able to petition for change in her guardianship herself. As she pointed out, Wendy “is bashing her own guardian and is claiming that she’s in a prison.”
Schon added, “It’s not just the family who has the right to petition the court. Wendy has the right to petition the court.” She could “ask for modifications, request movement, termination, change of guardian, whatever the case may be. She has that right to do that.”
