What To Know

  • Meghan Markle is set to return to acting with a significant new role in a U.K.-based project.
  • It will mark her first major acting role since leaving Suits in 2018.
  • She and Prince Harry, along with their children, are moving back to the U.K. for an extended period.

Meghan Markle is reportedly returning to the screen in her first major acting role since marrying Prince Harry back in 2018.

As first reported by Australian outlet News.com.au, Meghan has been “offered a role in an upcoming project based in the U.K.” The news comes two days after it was reported that Harry and Meghan were returning to the U.K. later this month with their children, Prince Archie (7) and Princess Lilibet (5).

Details of the project remain under wraps, but it is said to be Meghan’s most significant role since leaving Suits. News.com.au royal correspondent Bronte Coy revealed on BBC Radio Four’s Today program on Friday (August 21), “I’m told it’s significant, and she’s very excited about it.”

According to People, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex declined to comment but did not deny the project.

Meghan played Rachel Zane in the legal drama Suits from 2011 to 2018, appearing in seven of the show’s nine seasons. Her previous credits included acting roles in FringeKnight RiderWithout a Trace, and Castle, as well as the films Horrible BossesDysfunctional FriendsRandom Encounters, and Anti-Social. She was also a case holder on Deal or No Deal.

While the Duchess of Sussex stepped away from acting following her royal marriage, she is set to make a cameo as herself in the upcoming comedy film Close Personal Friends, starring Brie Larson and Lily Collins. She also recently hosted her own Netflix lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, which ran for two seasons in 2025.

Meghan and Harry are expected to return to the U.K. soon as their young children are enrolled in a British school, beginning in September. The couple, who stepped down from their royal duties in 2020, will stay in the U.K. for an “extended period” but will retain their home in Montecito, California.

People also reports that the couple will keep their business ventures, including As Ever, Archewell Productions, and charitable foundation Archewell Philanthropies, based in the United States.

Last year, a studio source spoke to The Sun about Meghan’s cameo in Close Personal Friends, describing it as a “massive moment” that “signifies a return to doing what she truly loves.”

“She has been swamped with offers, but this one felt right,” the source told the outlet. “It is Meghan’s way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set.”
