What is Small Prophets about?
The story follows Michael Sleep, an isolated and lonely man living in England who is patiently waiting for the return of his beloved Clea, his partner who mysteriously disappeared seven years earlier after leaving her car on the Severn Bridge.
After his father, Brian (Michael Palin), shares with him the secret of creating homunculi, Michael decides to try growing the tiny prophetic creatures himself in a last-ditch attempt to find Clea. Helping him along the way is his friend from work, Kacey (Lauren Patel), who has a few dreams of her own.
The creation of the homunculi was inspired by real texts found by series creator Mackenzie Crook. “All of the stuff with the homunculi came from this original manuscript from Paracelsus in the 16th century,” said Crook to TV Insider. “That’s all in the original piece that I found that inspired this.”
What is Small Prophets Season 2 about?
Crook explained to TV Insider that the next season will focus on the friendship between Michael and Kacey. “At the moment, I’m deeply involved in writing the second series,” said Crook. “I think Michael and Kacey’s friendship is going to inspire Michael to be more open to things, be more positive. She’s a good influence, a positive, optimistic influence in his life. We’ll see where it goes. I’m as intrigued to know as, hopefully, you are where it goes, because right now, I’m figuring it out.”
