What To Know

  • Obsession, a runaway horror hit, is finally heading to streaming
  • Here’s when subscribers will be able to watch and where.

Your wish is finally coming true. The breakthrough horror hit Obsession is finally heading to subscription streaming, so those who haven’t yet checked out what all the fuss is about will have a chance to weigh in on that twisty ending, and those who have can rewatch it on repeat without turning to any One Wish Willows.

Obsession is now slated to stream on Peacock starting Friday, July 17. It is still currently available for rental and purchase on various on-demand services, but this news will make the pic available for free to subscribers of the service.

The journey of Obsession to at-home audiences has been almost as intense as the film’s. After the movie proved to be a box office runaway — it earned over $400 million worldwide on a very modest $750,000 budget (albeit, with a $14 million acquisition deal at Focus Features) — the movie’s release to paid on-demand services was delayed from June 2 to allow for more theatrical runtime. It eventually hit PVOD services on June 30.

The film, which was directed by 26-year-old up-and-comer Curry Barker, centers on a man named Baron “Bear” Bailey (Michael Johnston), who uses a wish toy to win the love of his crush Nikki (Inde Navarrette), and things take a deadly turn. (The official description: “After breaking the mysterious ‘One Wish Willow’ to win his crush’s heart, a hopeless romantic finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price.)

Alongside Johnston and Navarrette, the film also stars Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, Andy Richter, Haley Fitzgerald, Darin Toonder, and Barker himself in a voice role.

Peacock’s horror collection also includes recent additions like NosferatuKnock at the CabinFive Nights at Freddy’sFive Nights at Freddy’s 2M3gan and M3gan UnratedExorcist: The Believer, You Should Have LeftFreakySickImaginary, and Wolf Man.
