The competition in Battle on the Beach Season 5 so far has been anything but a relaxing day by the ocean.
The HGTV competition series returned for its fifth outing on June 1, despite reports that the show had been canceled after Season 4. Set in South Carolina’s Grand Strand, the new episodes follow three teams as they transform run-down beachside properties into stunning vacation properties. The team with the highest short-term rental rate will take home bragging rights and a minimum cash prize of $50,000. Additionally, each week’s winning team must choose between accepting $3,000 or adding $6,000 to the grand prize.
Ty Pennington returned as a mentor for the new season, alongside 100 Day Dream Home‘s Mika Kleinschmidt and Renovation Island‘s Sarah Baeumler, the latter of whom previously served as a judge on Battle on the Beach. The new cast additions also include Renovation Aloha‘s Tristyn and Kamohai Kalama as judges.
The Season 5 premiere — which aired on Monday, June 1 — saw the teams compete in a head-to-head challenge to decide which houses they would renovate. After receiving their house assignments, the competitors showed off their design skills by transforming their homes’ living rooms, entryways, and staircases.
