Outlander‘s run may be over, but the franchise based on Diana Gabaldon‘s books isn’t over at Starz as we look ahead to Season 2 of Outlander: Blood of My Blood. The prequel inspired by the characters from Gabaldon’s series follows the parallel love stories between Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) parents, Henry (Jeremy Irvine) and Julia (Hermione Corfield), and Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) parents, Brian (Jamie Roy) and Ellen (Harriet Slater).
But could there be more stories on the horizon? Gabaldon has written more stories about fan-favorite characters over the years that weren’t included in the flagship show’s run, and with plenty of loose threads remaining after Season 8’s finale, we’re breaking down a few potential avenues for spinoffs and asking fans to let us know which idea they’d like to see come to life in our poll below.
The Lord John Grey Spinoff
It’s been the most debated and discussed path forward, as Gabaldon has written more than one novella about the redcoat who became Jamie’s best friend and the adoptive father to William (Charles Vandervaart), but could Starz actually bring the Lord John Grey (David Berry) spinoff to life? As recently as 2024, Berry conveyed his interest in further exploring his character, telling TV Insider, “A Lord John series has been thrown around for a while. If it came and I could continue the character, I’d for sure relish that opportunity.”
Master Raymond
Starz
Meanwhile, Master Raymond (Dominique Pinon), who was introduced as an apothecary in Season 2 of the flagship show, reemerged in the final two seasons as a key character in understanding Claire’s healing powers. Gabaldon has previously confirmed there’s more to his story and has teased extra writing pertaining to the character from her books; whether or not Starz would further explore remains to be seen.
The Next Generation
While Claire and Jamie’s fate seemed precarious in Outlander‘s closing moments, we know that their family lives on, many of them containing the ability to time travel. Could Starz eventually pursue a Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin) spinoff? Or, if they wanted to explore different times or characters, could their children, Jeremiah and Mandy, be a good source for story material? We learn in Outlander‘s closing moments that Brianna and Roger’s third child can’t time travel, so that’s certainly a starting point for potential drama if their family were to be separated through the stones.
