Whoopi Goldberg’s one-woman show, The Whoopi Monologues, helped propel her to stardom in the early 1980s. She performed the role of multiple characters in the Broadway production. But now, at 70, the actress got a little help from her friends in bringing the show back to New York City.
A reimagining of the one-woman show debuted at the Lincoln Center in New York City on July 13, 2026. Kerry Washington, Dominique Fishback, Kecia Lewis, Danielle Pinnock, and Kara Young take on the roles that Whoopi Goldberg once played herself. But Kerry Washington won’t stay with the show through its entire run.

Stars came out in force for the premiere of The Whoopi Monologues. The EGOT winner’s daughter, Alexandrea Martin Dean, made a rare public appearance to support her mom. The 52-year-old is Whoopi Goldberg’s only child. Her father is the comedian’s first ex-husband, Alvin Martin.
Alex Martin Dean is an actress and a filmmaker. She made appearances in her mother’s movies The Color Purple in 1985 and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit in 1993. Whoopi Goldberg became a great-grandmother for the second time in 2025.
The View host and her daughter were all smiles on the red carpet. Alex Martin Dean looked relaxed in black pants and a white top with a black jacket to complete the look. Whoopi Goldberg wore a long tan dress or jacket over a black shirt. Social media exploded with praise for the stunning mother-daughter duo.
