Why Courtney Robertson Reached Out To Maria Georgas

TV Shows

Bachelor contestant Maria Georgas has divided fans. Some praise her for being outspoken and true to herself. Others find her abrasive and hope she leaves soon. But the reality star has one unexpected person on her side: former Bachelor Nation villain Courtney Robertson. Ben Flajnik’s ex reached out to Maria; why?

Courtney Robertson Is Familiar With Testing Bachelor Leads

Viewers first met Courtney Roberston when she was a contestant on Season 16 of The Bachelor. Despite being unpopular with fans and the other women in the house, she won Ben Flajnik’s heart. They broke up nine months after their engagement.

Courtney is remembered by fans as the villain of her season, much like some viewers think of Maria Georgas. One thing that went down in the recent episode of Joey Graziadei’s season is very familiar to Courtney. Maria Georgas told Joey that she was considering leaving.

Courtney Robertson played that same card ahead of hometowns during Season 16. “I did that right before hometowns. … Like, ‘Make me stay.’ … It’s almost like trying to pull more out from the Bachelor to tell me how you feel about me,’” Courtney reflected on Us Weekly’s Here for the Right Reasons podcast.

Was Ben Flajnik’s ex-fiance upset that Maria took a play from her villain book? Not at all! She said that it was “well played.” Maria ended up staying, just as Courtney did.

Why She Reached Out To Maria Georgas

Testing boundaries isn’t the only thing Courtney thinks she has in common with Maria. Earlier in Season 28, Maria was accused of bullying behavior by the other women in the house. Courtney was also at odds with the other contestants in her season.

“As soon as the girls started kind of ganging up on her, that hit so close to home for me because the girls were doing that to me, and they were running to the Bachelor and saying like, ‘Oh, she’s this or that,’” Courtney said about the similarities.

Courtney said on the podcast that she reached out to Maria, “She’s been lovely, and I just said, ‘Hey, if you need anything.’” The former Bachelor star gushed over Maria Georgas. “I can’t wait to hear more of her side of the story. And she’s also such TV gold.”

Another reason Courtney Robertson reached out to Maria Georgas was because she thought the producers were giving Maria the villain edit. But now she’s not so sure. She noted on the podcast that “They could have easily made Maria the villain” with the music they used during her meltdown but chose not to.

Does it surprise you that Courtney Robertson feels a connection with Maria Georgas? Sound off in the comments.

The Bachelor airs on ABC on Mondays at 8 PM Eastern. Hometowns are up next. Check out the preview clip below.
