Recently, Welcome To Plathville‘s Olivia Plath has been getting questions about why she is keeping her estranged husband, Ethan Plath’s last name. While getting pushback about the name change, Olivia is seemingly wanting to stick with the Plath family name.
Going Separate Ways
On October 27, Olivia Plath announced on her Instagram that the Welcome To Plathville couple was heading separate ways. While this wasn’t a total surprise for fans, it was a big event in their lives. In her post, she refers to them becoming older and wiser during their time together. Additionally, Ethan Plath shared with fans, “It just didn’t work between us, though Lord knows we both gave it all we had. It seemed we were constantly pulling each other in opposite directions in life with different goals.” However, some fans have noticed that Olivia is still using the Plath family name.
Olivia Plath Does What She Wants
Presently, fans are suspicious of the reason behind Olivia Plath wanting to keep the Plath name. Seemingly, for the majority of Olivia and Ethan’s four years of marriage, she has wanted controlled and limited association with the Plath family. But now, with their announcement of going separate ways, fans thought she would be running to ditch the name as soon as possible. However, when a fan eagerly commented, “Change that last name little lady,” Olivia was quick to snap back. She retorts, “Because last names belong to men? Nah f–k that.” Continuing defensively, “This is my name, and I don’t have to change it for anyone unless I want to.”
Why Is Olivia Plath So Adamant About Keeping The Name?
Notably, the user comes back and challenges Olivia Plath. But the commenter rephrased, “Lose his name, and make a name of your own is all I’m saying.” As they continue, it gets a little more pointed, “Unless you can’t because you’re banking on the Plaths’ last name.” And daring her, the user says, “If u a boss then u should be a boss with ur own given name …” Sharply, Olivia came back, “Olivia Marie Plath is my name, not his.” Adamantly she replies, “Not sure how you’re getting confused over this simple concept.”
Fans Question Olivia Plath’s Motives
The original commenter followed up. Then saying, “Ummmm no it’s not. Seriously u are delusional. I see now why so many was skeptic? Fr though what is ur last name!? Literally No one knows.. he should get half ur profit from u benefiting off the the Plath last name.”
Then, fans began to question her motives for keeping the name. While several stood up for her decision, many did not understand. Some people believe she has no good reason to remain a Plath with a history of criticizing the family. For example, they were only married for four years. Additionally, Olivia Plath and Ethan Plath don’t have children together. Furthermore, fans began to speculate the only good reason is for the money and fame that comes with the name. Another commenter says, “For someone who detests the Plaths so much, ya sure like to carry the name on!”
