Why ‘NCIS’ Needs to Bring Back Troian Bellisario as McGee’s Sister in Season 24

What To Know

  • NCIS will have McGee in the middle of some major drama involving his family when Season 24 premiere.
  • It’s time to bring back Troian Bellisario as his sister, Sarah, because of that.

McGee’s (Sean Murray) family has grown over the years, and we’d still love to see the twins again — especially now that Michael Weatherly‘s returning as Tony and we want, onscreen, all of their children together — but there’s someone else we actually would like to come back just a bit more: his sister, Sarah, played by his stepsister Troian Bellisario.

Sarah was introduced in NCIS Season 4’s “Twisted Sister,” as a murder suspect, and McGee did everything he could to protect her. (She was innocent.) In fact, executive producer Steven D. Binder referenced just that episode when discussing the Season 23 finale cliffhanger, in which McGee’s newly discovered teen son Mateo (Patrick Keleher) and teammate Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) faced off and someone was shot; the agent caught the teen in a lie, then Mateo claimed “they” could be watching and was revealed to be armed. Whatever happened in that alley and whoever was shot, McGee’s going to be facing it as both a father and agent, just like he did that murder investigation as a brother and member of law enforcement.

“When his sister came to his door with her hands covered in blood and said, ‘Tim, I think I killed somebody,’ he was caught between a rock and hard place, the rock being Gibbs [Mark Harmon] and the law and the hard place being his loyalty to his sister. And there’s a moment where, and I think what can be illuminating for the present is a line that McGee says to Gibbs when Gibbs comes at him and it’s like, ‘What are you doing, man?’ The idea that anyone on the show would try and pull a fast one on Gibbs. Gibbs was a father figure to them. He never would do that,” Binder noted.

He continued, “And McGee’s standing there with Gibbs and McGee says to him, I don’t remember the exact line, but it’s something like, ‘You are my mentor, my teacher, my father figure, you’re everything to me, but she’s my sister.’ And I think Gibbs can understand that and I think everyone can understand that. And I think when push comes to shove, that’s where McGee’s loyalties are going to lead him, but it’s not going to be an easy — It’ll be an easy decision, but not an easy experience.”

Sarah was even mentioned in Season 23, when McGee remarked that his sister liked the exact dolls (Sugar Sprout) that Knight’s (Katrina Law) mother sent her in a package.

And so when better for McGee to talk to his sister (onscreen) again than when she can remind him of when she was in a tough position and he helped her or for the aftermath, to be there to help with whatever happens. After all, he may not feel he can lean on someone from the team given that Torres is also part of the situation. Plus, it would be nice for another member of McGee’s family to meet Mateo onscreen — as always, we would love more of Margo Harshman as McGee’s wife Delilah — and to get an update on Sarah’s life.

But what do you think? Do you want to see Troian Bellisario return as Sarah? Let us know in the comments section below.
