What To Know

  • The set celebrates Lauper’s mid-’80s wrestler era.
  • It will be showcased at Mattel’s booth at SDCC.

Gen X has always been flush with pop-culture icons they’re willing to go to the mats for, but only one of them literally did the same. Back in the 1980s, new-to-the-scene Cyndi Lauper blended her quirky, colorful personal and caffeinated music with the equally out-there antics of the WWE, and now Mattel is putting her center ring!

The toy company has just announced Mattel Creations’ upcoming San Diego Comic-Con 2026 exclusive set honoring one of the greatest music-sports mashups ever that brings the still-fabulous Grammy winner and actress into their WWE action figure line.

Fans of a certain age will recall wrestler Captain Lou Albano as Lauper’s father in her breakthrough 1983 “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” video, which led to a years-long collab between the musician and the WWE crowd, with Lauper managing Wendi Richter to a win against The Fabulous Moolah (managed by Albano) at 1984’s MTV-aired “The Brawl to End It All.” A year later, Lauper and Richter had another victory — this time against Leilani Kai — at the inaugural WrestleMania at Madison Square Garden.

So, it’s only fitting that Lauper would once again wind up a part of history. Set to debut at SDCC 2026 this July, Mattel Creations’ reveal touts that this new WWE Elite 3-Pack features “the first-ever WWE action figure inspired by Cyndi Lauper alongside ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper and Captain Lou Albano, honoring the legendary Rock ‘N’ Wrestling era that helped catapult WWE into the pop culture mainstream during the 1980s.” The set is based on Lauper’s legendary appearance on Piper’s Pit and “celebrates the intersection of music, fashion, entertainment, and wrestling fandom through one of WWE’s most memorable celebrity crossover moments.”

Soaked in vibrant ‘80s energy and nostalgia, this new drop also exemplifies how Mattel Creations has become a must-stop destination for fan-focused collectibles that combine creativity, legacy and self-expression with whatever you’re into, be it TV, films, music, fashion, gaming, or design. To borrow a phrase from Lauper herself, they’ve got the perfect products to let your true colors shine through.
