‘Yellowstone’ Season 5, Part 2 Production Start Date Announced

TV Shows

Now that the SAG-AFTRA strike is over, Paramount has now solidified its plans for the final installment of Yellowstone. There is news on when they will start production. Paramount has already announced that the Western drama will premiere in November 2024.

However, this will not be the first of Taylor Sheridan’s shows that will start production. What is he filming first?

Perhaps the biggest question is whether or not Kevin Costner will be returning as John Dutton III. Here is the latest news on that as well.

When Will Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2 Start Production?

Yellowstone fans have waited nearly a year for the final installment of the Western drama. Paramount has already set a date for the premiere. Now, Taylor Sheridan needs to gather the stars and start filming. The initial reports were that they would start filming soon. However, that has changed.

On Thursday, Deadline reported that Paramount will start production on the final installment of the Taylor Sheridan-created series in the late spring of 2024.

Why have they chosen to wait until that time to film? It is because they will be filming in Utah, and as they will be filming outdoors, they need good weather.

Will Kevin Costner Return As John Dutton In The Final Yellowstone Installment?

The question that Yellowstone fans have had since February is whether or not Kevin Costner will be reprising his role as John Dutton one last time. Right now, it seems unlikely. The publication writes, “While everything is possible, for now, there are no plans for Yellowstone star Kevin Costner to return for the series’ final chapter, we hear.”

Since February, reports from the Paramount set revealed chaos about Costner’s availability. The award-winning actor and director has been filming a passion project called Horizon. This is a four-movie epic drama that takes place during the Western Expansion, before and after the Civil War.

Because of pandemic-related delays to the filming schedule, the rescheduled filming overlapped with Costner’s movie project. He is starring, writing, and directing these movies. Moreover, the Field Of Dreams star has invested his own money, as well as a hefty amount from two friends. The pressure is on to get these movies made and their money recouped.

Currently, two of the four movies have been filmed and will premiere in the Summer of 2024, months before the final installment of Yellowstone.

However, it appears that since the scheduling conflict became public, there have been plenty of discussions between the folks at Paramount and the veteran actor. It seems that anything is still possible. Late Spring 2024 is five to seven months away. There is no doubt that the series will be more satisfying if Costner appears for at least some of the end.

Taylor Sheridan Is Filming Mayor Of Kingstown Soon

Although Paramount may not be filming Yellowstone Season 5, Part 2, for a half year, they are not sitting idle. They plan on filming Jeremy Renner’s Mayor Of Kingstown in early 2024.

However, Paramount has not revealed any more information on Taylor Sheridan’s other half-dozen possible projects’ filming schedules.

Yellowstone fans, do you think Kevin Costner will be returning?
