Zach Braff Opens Up About Depression In Mental Health Share

As An Actor, Zach Braff Is Known To Many As ‘J.D.’ On Scrubs

Braff is an actor who became known to many for playing Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian on the medical sitcom Scrubs. Originally running from 2001 to 2010, he later returned to the role in 2026 with the series’ revival.

In addition, Braff made his directorial debut with Garden State, in which he also starred. Other films he has appeared in include The Last Kiss, The Ex, Chicken Little, and Oz the Great and Powerful.

Recently, Braff appeared as a guest on the podcast series Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum. At the time, he opened up about struggling with dejection and depression.

Speaking with Rosenbaum, Braff shared, “I definitely have depression. I see a therapist and I found things that help it a lot. Exercise helps it a lot. My dog helps it a lot.”

According to Braff, his therapist advised him to have a physical fitness routine. He shared that he trains three times a week, in addition to going to saunas and cold plunges.

Braff Also Discussed Returning To Sacred Heart With A New Season Of Scrubs

Later in the interview, Braff also touched on a loss he endured: his late dog, Roscoe, who passed away in 2020. The actor showed off a tattoo of Roscoe, whom he owned for 17 years. He shared, “[It was a] such meaningful chapter of my life. He was there for everything and then he passed.”

Since then, the actor shared that he has since fostered a mastiff pitbull mix who brings him “joy.” He noted, “She’s the best anti-depressant there is.”

As previously mentioned, Scrubs recently returned for a tenth season. During the conversation, Braff also noted that he was “always super open” to reviving Scrubs. He noted, “We wanted to come back to Sacred Heart,” referring to the hospital where the show is set. He continued, “We didn’t want to do a spin-off. Like season 9 of the show had been sort of what should have been labeled a spin-off. It didn’t really work for multiple reasons.”
