Zach Braff Teases Fan-Favorites’ Return

The second revival season of Scrubs is “gonna be even better than the first,” according to star and executive producer Zach Braff, who is hyping up the return of fan-favorite characters.

“I feel like we all learned so much in doing Season 1. So we learned what the audience really liked. We learned the tone,” Braff told People at the world premiere of the film Clean Hands at New York City’s Village East by Angelika theater on Sunday, June 7, as part of the Tribeca Film Festival.

He added: “More guest stars will be back for the fans. I’ll tease that. Or we’re booking a lot of their fan favorites as we speak.”

After more than a decade and a half off air, Scrubs hit ABC with a nine-episode revival in February. At the end of April, ABC announced that the medical comedy had been renewed. And the following month, the network scheduled the revival to return this fall instead of holding it for midseason, as it did with Season 1.

“We love the momentum on Scrubs,” said Ari Goldman, SVP, Content Strategy and Scheduling, according to Deadline. “It was the No. 1 new comedy on a multi-platform basis, [and] it was the No.1 comedy in 18-49 on linear this season, so we want to really keep that show present and top of mind as we head into the fall.”

Scrubs Season 2 will also revisit the story of Dr. Perry Cox (John C. McGinley), who was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder at the end of Season 10.

“What’s really interesting about Cox migrating from mentor to patient, that’s a whole different vibe, and so to bring him back in the hospital as a guy who was the teacher and is now being taken care of by the caregivers? That’s so delicious, and writers can write that, that’s a nuanced conflict, and I think that’s what we’re in the position to do,” McGinley told TV Insider. “My hope is, and I’ve been told, Cox will be much more in Season 2, but he’ll be in as a patient.”
