Landman Season 2 broke just about every streaming record Paramount+ had en route to its surprisingly optimistic finale, and ever since then a horde of fans has been champing at the bit for more of the adventures of oilman Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton). Fortunately, co-creator Taylor Sheridan is pretty efficient, and so unlike with certain other big shows, we probably won’t have to wait multiple years for Season 3 — though it’s starting to look as though it may take a little longer to get done than Season 2 did. Let’s take a look at what we know so far.

Landman Season 3 expected release date

We have no info about when Season 3 will premiere on Paramount+, from official sources or otherwise. Since Landman Season 2 premiered 364 days after Season 1 did, we had been expecting another November premiere for Season 3. It might be tough for Sheridan and company to pull that off this time, however, since filming will begin much later in the year than it did for Season 1 and 2, though if a billion things go exactly right, there’s still a chance to see Season 3 premiere before the end of 2026. More on that in the next section.

Has Landman season 3 started production yet?

As of the beginning of June 2026, there’s been no official word about when Season 3 will start production, but star Billy Bob Thornton said on Howie Mandel’s podcast that they plan to start shooting “at the end of August.” That’s going to make it difficult to keep to the same schedule this year — on Season 2, August was when they finished shooting.

OK, let’s get incredibly optimistic here. The late start doesn’t necessarily mean that Season 3 will end up premiering in 2027 — it gives Sheridan more time to get the scripts ready in advance, for one thing. For another, Paramount+ has been really efficient when it has to be, with the popular series MobLand managing to premiere its first season just four months after it began production. Were Landman able to pull off a similar feat, Season 3 would premiere in December.

Returning Landman cast and crew

There weren’t any major character deaths in Season 2, so we can expect everyone important to come back for Season 3. Keep in mind, however, that Season 2 did completely write off Ainsley Norris’s overly respectful boyfriend with a brief line of dialogue, and so it’s possible something similar will happen with another supporting character or two. But we don’t have any reason to speculate along those lines yet. For now, you should expect everybody who matters to be back.

Likewise, Taylor Sheridan will once again be running the show and writing all the scripts.

Landman Season 3 plotlines

It’s pretty clear that the main story thread for Season 3 will be focused on the adventures of CTT Oil Exploration and Cattle, the hilariously named oil company that Tommy set up for his family and friends in the Season 2 finale. While the future looks bright, they’re on the hook with Gallino (Andy Garcia), a cartel boss who made an extremely pointed threat toward Tommy’s family while he was writing $62 million in checks to get this party started. You can expect that CTT will suffer some mishaps in Season 3 that’ll make Tommy scared that Gallino will follow through on that threat.

But there are also plenty of other ongoing plot threads that are likely to pop up in Season 3. Here are the main ones:

  • Cooper killed an oil man who was trying to rape Ariana, and there were hints that some shadowy figure in the oil business was pushing to have him charged with a murder for it
  • Cami’s gas rig in the Gulf of Mexico, a $400 million bet on a 10% chance of finding gas
  • Ainsley learning to find common ground with her non-binary college roommate
  • Cooper and Ariana are getting married, and Tommy and Angela are getting re-married

Considering the way that Landman loves to give Tommy more things to worry about, there are some real world current events — like the USA’s war with Iran — that could add to his stress if they’re incorporated into the story in some way. We’ll talk about how that could work a little further down.

What will Landman Season 3 do with Paigyn and Ainsley?

The thread about Ainsley’s roommate is probably the most expendable since Ainsley herself is basically a side character who lives in Fort Worth now — she’s not really part of the main plot at the moment. But the story of Ainsley’s relationship with Paigyn, in which the two of them learn to get along despite dramatically different personalities and backgrounds, is a good story thread that’s worth keeping, particularly for a series that’s as popular as Landman is. While their introductory scene was a bit awkward and seemed to play too much into anti-woke stereotypes, it really was just awkward roommate jitters. It turned out that Paigyn is actually pretty friendly and helpful, and it looks like the two of them are about to become BFFs thanks to their shared love of Lainey Wilson.

Will Landman address current events in Iran and Venezuela?

While Landman is a fiction series, it deals with a subject that may be the most topical in the world at the moment, thanks to the United States’ 2026 “excursions” into Venezuela and Iran. The Trump regime began the year by abducting the president of Venezuela in order to take control of the country’s oil reserves, and its war with Iran has caused oil and gas prices to skyrocket and forced the US to tap extensively into its strategic oil reserves. It’s just the sort of situation that might inspire an epic Tommy Norris rant about just how stupid the whole situation is.

And it’s pretty difficult to imagine that Taylor Sheridan would want to avoid the topic. While his shows don’t usually do “ripped from the headlines” sort of plotlines, one of the reasons why Sheridan’s writing is so compelling is the way he’s able to so effectively tap into our collective anxieties. Well, the price of gas is one of the main causes of those anxieties in 2026, and that’s not going to change before Landman Season 3 starts airing on Paramount+.

We’re not suggesting that Landman‘s plot might go to Iran or Venezuela in Season 3, of course. But for a show about folks in the oil industry being extremely stressed out about their jobs, the fallout from Trump’s war with Iran may be too good a potential source of drama to pass up. And it could even work well for that purpose just as a thing happening in the background that’s making everyone act a little more unhinged than they were before — Sheridan doesn’t actually need to make the show literally about Iran to let it have a major impact.
