Back in February, we reported that the critically acclaimed British drama I Swear was heading to Netflix US later this year. Now, the streamer has finally locked in the exact date.
Marking a late addition to the August roster, I Swear will make its US SVOD debut on August 22, 2026. Across the pond, the film was already available on Netflix UK back on March 11, 2026, where it performed exceptionally well. According to the top 10s, British audiences instantly connected with the story’s heart and humor, with it spending 30 days in the UK and Ireland top 10 charts before dropping out.
Unlike the United Kingdom, which received the movie courtesy of a first-window deal with StudioCanal, Netflix US is picking it up under its Sony Pictures first-window deal, where the movie falls under the Sony Pictures Classics brand.
Of course, the movie has already been an awards magnet, at least in the UK, where it secured the lead actor a prestigious BAFTA and it’s also tipped for more awards nods in the coming year.

What is the plot of I Swear?
Directed and written by Kirk Jones (Waking Ned, Nanny McPhee), I Swear is a biographical comedy-drama based on an incredibly powerful true story. The film chronicles the life of John Davidson, a Scottish teenager from Galashiels navigating life with severe Tourette syndrome in the 1980s.
Davidson first gained national attention in the 1989 BBC documentary John’s Not Mad. Decades later, I Swear explores his journey from a heavily misunderstood teenager to a prominent activist and educator.

The film boasts an absolutely stellar ensemble of established British talent. Robert Aramayo leads the film, delivering a powerhouse performance that rightfully earned him the BAFTA for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
