Netflix has lined up another streaming debut for July 2024. Those in the United States will be treated to the new family drama The Neon Highway, which was released a little earlier in the year in select theaters.

The movie, filmed in 2021 during the global pandemic, took quite a while to find its way to release. But it was eventually released in select theaters in early 2024, beginning March 15th.

Now, everyone with a Netflix subscription in the United States can enjoy the William Wages directed film as it is confirmed to be hitting Netflix as part of the July 2024 roster starting July 11th, 2024. We could only verify that Netflix in the US is due to receive the film for the moment.

What’s The Neon Highway about?

Set in Nashville, The Neon Highway is about singer-songwriter Wayne, who, by chance, meets a washed-up drunken has-been country musician following a devastating car crash that looked to have put his dream of becoming a country star to bed for good. That chance encounter, however, rekindles his flame and quest to get back into the business and proverbial saddle.

The movie features original music from Nashville singer-songwriter Dallas Davidson, known for his studio album This Ole Boy, plus appearances from country music stars Lee Brice and Pam Tillis.

Beau Bridges, who has been active in Hollywood since the late 1940s, leads the cast of the movie. His best-known roles include The Fabulous Baker Boys, Max Payne, and Hit and Run.

Rob Mayes plays Wayne Collins, best known for the 212 movie John Dies at the End. Sam Hennings, T.J. Power, Lee Brice, Pam Tillis, and Jennifer Bowles round out the main cast.

Reviews from audiences are few and far between, probably because of the small rollout, but critics were mostly positive, with it carrying a 64% on RottenTomatoes at the time of publishing. Jeffrey M. Anderson for Common Sense Media concluded in his 3-star review, “As freewheeling and laid-back as an old country song, this music biz drama never has much at stake—and these good ol’ boys don’t show much emotion—but it still manages to touch the heart.”

Audience scores on IMDb are 8.1, 100% on RottenTomatoes, and three stars on Letterboxd.
