Hearties, rejoice! Netflix is making a return trip to the frontier. We’ve learned that at least two seasons of the beloved drama series When Hope Calls are scheduled to hit Netflix in the United States on September 14th.

If you love a cozy period drama, this licensing pickup will be right up your alley. For the unfamiliar, When Hope Calls is the popular spin-off of the long-running smash-hit television series When Calls the Heart. Set in the early 1900s, the spin-off shifts the focus to sisters Lillian and Grace as they navigate the unique challenges of running an orphanage in the western prairie town of Brookfield.

The series began its run on Hallmark+ before transitioning to Great American Family for its second season in 2021, with two Christmas specials and additional episodes for season 2 airing in Spring 2025, and a six-episode third season just recently wrapped up in May 2026.

At the time of publishing, we can confirm that at least the first two seasons of the series are locked in for the September 14th release date. However, the recently released third season could also be included in the drop, so keep your eyes peeled as we get closer to release day. We have reached out to Netflix for more information and will update once we hear more.

Only the United States is currently scheduled to pick up the show. When Hope Calls is a perfect binge for anyone who loves hits like Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias, or sweeping, family-friendly period dramas like Anne with an E and the long-running Canadian staple Heartland; you will feel right at home in Brookfield. It also heavily channels classic, nostalgic frontier television in the vein of Little House on the Prairie.

Who stars in When Hope Calls?

The series features a stellar ensemble cast that fans of the flagship show and frontier dramas will immediately fall in love with. The core cast includes:

  • Morgan Kohan as Lillian Walsh
  • Jocelyn Hudon as Grace Bennett (Season 1)
  • Ryan-James Hatanaka as Mountie Gabriel Winslow
  • Greg Hovanessian as Chuck Stewart
  • Wendy Crewson as Tess Stewart
  • Hanneke Talbot as Maggie Parsons
  • Jefferson Brown as Joe Moody
  • Neil Crone as Ronnie Stewart
  • Marshall Williams as Sam Tremblay

Note for fans: If you’re a die-hard viewer of the mothership show, Season 2 of When Hope Calls also notably features a guest appearance from Lori Loughlin, reprising her fan-favorite role as Abigail Stanton!

A Return to the Franchise for Netflix

This new addition is particularly notable for long-time Netflix subscribers, as the streaming service used to be the go-to home for the mothership series, When Calls the Heart.

Unfortunately for fans, Netflix eventually stopped acquiring the rights to newer seasons of the parent show, which ultimately led to its total removal. As we covered back in the day, all 53 episodes (comprising the first five seasons) of When Calls the Heart permanently departed Netflix US on January 25th, 2021.

At the time, we noted how big of a blow losing the flagship franchise was to the US library, writing, “The Canadian-American co-production is one of the top-rated series on Hallmark where it airs in the US (Super Channel in Canada). Although the series has fallen on some controversial times thanks to the controversy that surrounded one of the stars of the show, Lori Loughlin, it’s still highly regarded and will be a devastating loss for Netflix.”
