Happy first of the month! As tradition dictates, Netflix has just unleashed a massive tidal wave of new licensed content, with many previously unannounced titles also hitting. With 68 new titles added today, there is, on paper, something for absolutely everyone. As we’re a little away from our end-of-week recap, let’s dive into the best new movies to check out, plus the full list of everything new on Netflix for September 1st, 2026.

Best New Movies on Netflix Today
Ready or Not (2019)

Cast: Samara Weaving, Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien, Henry Czerny, Andie MacDowell
Looking for a wildly entertaining horror-comedy? Ready or Not is an absolute must-watch. Samara Weaving shines as Grace, a young bride who marries into the incredibly wealthy (and incredibly eccentric) Le Domas family. But instead of a normal wedding night, she’s forced to play a terrifying, time-honored family game of hide-and-seek. The catch? The family is trying to hunt her down and kill her before dawn. It’s bloody, hilarious, and features an unforgettable ending.
Alien (1979)

Cast: Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, John Hurt, Ian Holm
Sticking with another FOX movie, if you want to revisit a monumental piece of sci-fi horror history, Ridley Scott’s masterpiece has landed on Netflix today (alongside James Cameron’s phenomenal sequel, Aliens). Sigourney Weaver’s iconic debut as Ellen Ripley never gets old. Following the crew of the Nostromo as they unwittingly bring a perfect, terrifying killing machine aboard their ship, this film practically invented the space-horror genre.
Phantom Thread (2018)
Director: Paul Thomas Anderson
Cast: Daniel Day-Lewis, Vicky Krieps, Lesley Manville
For the cinephiles out there, Netflix has blessed us with Paul Thomas Anderson’s gorgeous and mesmerizing Phantom Thread. Set in 1950s London, the film follows Reynolds Woodcock (played beautifully by Daniel Day-Lewis in what he claimed was his final film role), a renowned dressmaker whose meticulously tailored life is upended by a strong-willed young waitress who becomes his muse and lover. It’s a visually stunning, surprisingly darkly comedic look at power dynamics and toxic romance.
Untold Raygun: Breaking Badly (2026)

Subject: Rachael “Raygun” Gunn
Netflix’s acclaimed Untold sports documentary series is back with what is guaranteed to be one of the most talked-about releases of the month (assuming there’s any interest in this bizarre story still!). Chronicling the viral fame (and infamy) of the 2024 Paris Olympics breakdancer “Raygun,” this documentary traces the Australian academic’s offbeat path to the global stage. It’s an inside look at how a niche competitor became a global meme overnight with exclusive access to Ms. Raygun herself.
Greta (2018)
Director: Neil Jordan
Cast: Isabelle Huppert, Chloë Grace Moretz, Maika Monroe
Looking for a deliciously unhinged psychological thriller? Greta is exactly what you need. When a trusting young woman named Frances (Chloë Grace Moretz) finds a handbag on the subway, she kindly returns it to its owner: a lonely widow named Greta (played by Isabelle Huppert). What starts as a sweet friendship quickly spirals into a claustrophobic nightmare of obsession and stalking. It’s a campy, suspenseful, and wildly entertaining ride that will definitely make you think twice about being a good Samaritan. Reviews were mixed upon its release, with Josh Goller for Spectrum Culture saying at the time, “[Moretz and Huppert] carry the film without attempting to transcend it, which makes its many outlandish scenarios more deliciously fabulist than difficult to swallow.”
