The wait is almost over. Following months of tracking production across London and Italy—and a sneaky hint from Keri Russell herself earlier this summer—Netflix has officially announced that The Diplomat Season 4 will premiere globally on October 15, 2026.
To celebrate the announcement, Netflix has also unveiled an explosive new teaser trailer, a fresh batch of first-look images, and a brand-new synopsis that promises the geopolitical (and marital) stakes have literally never been higher.

Mark your calendars: all eight hour-long episodes of The Diplomat Season 4 will drop on Tuesday, October 15, 2026.
This officially confirms our recent coverage when series star Keri Russell let slip (quite purposely) during an interview that the show was targeting an October return. Now, Netflix has locked in the mid-October date, perfectly positioning the highly acclaimed drama for the fall binge-watching season.

Alongside the release date, Netflix debuted our very first look at the new season. While Kate Wyler is no stranger to putting out international fires, Season 4 looks to be her most impossible challenge yet, as the call is coming from inside the (White) House.

What to Expect From Season 4 of The Diplomat?
As we learned at the end of the last season, President Grace Penn (Allison Janney) and Vice President Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell) have formed an insanely productive—and deeply dangerous—working relationship, secretly orchestrating the theft of a Russian nuclear submarine’s doomsday weapon.
According to Netflix’s official synopsis for Season 4, this unholy alliance is going to force Kate to team up with a very unlikely ally: First Gentleman Todd Penn (Bradley Whitford).
Here is the official synopsis for Season 4:
“In Season Four of The Diplomat, two marriages threaten to eat each other alive. One catastrophic moment shatters the fragile peace Kate Wyler brokered between the US and UK, as well as the crumbling marriage she’s trying to save. While she fights to stem the bleeding, President Grace Penn and VP Hal Wyler’s conspiracy to steal Russia’s most powerful weapon hurtles the United States toward war.
Kate and Todd, at best an uneasy pair, unite to stop the Grace-Hal alliance from upending the balance of power abroad and at home. Four Emmy nominees paint an unmissable portrait of two marriages: Keri Russell as Ambassador Kate Wyler, Rufus Sewell as Vice President Hal Wyler, Allison Janney as President Grace Penn, and Bradley Whitford as Todd Penn.”
Also returning to round out the stellar ensemble cast are Ato Essandoh (Stuart Heyford), Ali Ahn (Eidra Graham), Nana Mensah (Billie Appiah—who, as we previously reported, has been upped to a series regular this season), and Rory Kinnear (Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge).
Creator and showrunner Debora Cahn remains at the helm of the AFI and SAG Award-winning series, serving as an executive producer alongside Janice Williams, Alex Graves, Keri Russell, Peter Noah, and Eli Attie.
