Best New Movies and Shows on Netflix This Week
Best of the Best (2026)
Type: Movie
Genre: Action, Sports, Drama | Runtime: 1h 48m
If you are looking for an uplifting, punch-packing underdog story this weekend, this brand-new Netflix Original is exactly what you need. Breathing fresh life into the classic martial arts sports drama, the film follows a ragtag group of struggling athletes who must overcome their personal demons and intense rivalries to form a unified national team. With spectacular fight choreography and a genuinely moving emotional core, it is a massive crowd-pleaser. In fact, in our full review of the film, we called it a knockout hit that delivers “a perfect balance of bone-crunching action and immense heart.”
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024)
Type: Movie
Genre: Action, Comedy, War | Runtime: 2h 0m
Guy Ritchie brings his signature hyper-stylish, rapid-fire direction to World War II! Based on recently declassified files from the British War Department, this wildly entertaining action-comedy stars Henry Cavill, Alan Ritchson, and Eiza González as the leaders of a top-secret, highly unconventional combat unit formed by Winston Churchill. Tasked with hunting down Nazi U-boats using entirely “ungentlemanly” combat techniques, this rogue squad essentially gave birth to modern black ops. It’s a stylish, explosive, and ridiculously fun ride.
Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story
Type: TV Series
Genre: Drama, True Crime, Thriller
Ryan Murphy’s massively successful Monster anthology series returns to tackle one of the most infamous and grisly true-crime mysteries in American history. Trading the modern era for the 1890s, this season takes a chilling, atmospheric deep dive into the brutal axe murders of Andrew and Abby Borden, and the ensuing media circus surrounding their prime suspect: their quiet Sunday school teacher daughter, Lizzie. It’s well-produced, as you can imagine, although once again, historical accuracy is left at the door in favor of the pure shock factor. If you’ve seen the prior three instalments, you absolutely know what you’re going into.
Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 (Season 2)
Type: TV Series
Genre: Animation, Sci-Fi, Adventure
While the wait for the live-action mothership series continues, Netflix is taking us back to Hawkins! This fantastic animated spin-off returns for its second season, offering a Saturday-morning-cartoon aesthetic as it explores side quests, untold stories, and hilarious misadventures featuring our favorite kids from Hawkins during the summer of 1985. It’s a nostalgic, incredibly fun treat for fans of the franchise and, thankfully, season 2 does evolve and fix some of the issues we had with the first season.
