Directed and written by Jacob Chase, Out of the Further serves as a direct sequel to 2023’s Insidious: The Red Door. The film shifts focus to a new protagonist, Gemma (played by Amelia Eve), a young mother raising her daughter in her childhood home. Gemma discovers she possesses the rare and terrifying ability to physically travel into The Further—the dark, purgatorial realm of lost souls that sits at the center of the Insidious universe. However, she soon realizes her powers are a two-way street. Not only can she enter the astral plane, but she can also bring the demons residing there back into the real world permanently. As malevolent entities catch on to her abilities, Gemma and her daughter are hunted by evils eager to make our world their new playground.
The film stars Amelia Eve alongside Brandon Perea, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, and franchise legend Lin Shaye, who returns in her iconic role as Elise Rainier.
When will Insidious: Out of the Further be on Netflix in the US?
If you’d rather wait to watch the film from behind a pillow at home, we have good news. We definitely know Insidious: Out of the Further will be making its streaming debut on Netflix in the United States.
This is all thanks to a sweeping multi-year Pay-1 window deal struck between Sony Pictures and Netflix back in 2021 and subsequently renewed a couple of times, including from 2027 onwards globally. Under this agreement, Netflix holds the exclusive US streaming rights to all of Sony’s theatrical releases.
So, when exactly can you expect it?
Typically, Sony movies make their way to Netflix exactly 120 days after their initial theatrical debut.
Given that Insidious: Out of the Further hits US theaters on August 21, 2026, our projected Netflix release date is Saturday, December 19, 2026. But if the movie is a flop, which it hasn’t done too well at the box office, it may come up to 4 weeks sooner.
It’s worth noting that Out of the Further will actually be the second movie in the Blumhouse/Sony horror franchise to land on Netflix courtesy of this exact pact.
The previous installment, Insidious: The Red Door, hit theaters in July 2023. Keeping strictly to the 120-day timeline, The Red Doorarrived on Netflix US precisely on schedule on November 4, 2023. Given that track record, December 19, 2026, feels like a lock for Out of the Further.
Will other regions of Netflix receive Insidious: Out of the Further?
Yes, but the timeline will vary widely depending on where you live. Based on how Sony releases are historically distributed internationally:
- Asian Markets (India, South Korea, Philippines, etc.): These regions often receive Sony films much faster than the US. India and South Korea, for instance, received The Red Door roughly three months after its theatrical debut. You can likely expect Out of the Further in these regions by late Fall 2026.
- Europe (Belgium, The Netherlands, Italy): Usually receive Sony titles towards the latter half of the following year, meaning late 2027 is a safe bet.
- United Kingdom: Under current schedules, Netflix UK doesn’t typically receive these Sony movies until about two years after their theatrical run, meaning a 2028 release is most likely for British subscribers.
