Rachel began The Bachelorette episode with five bachelors still in the running for her final rose and eliminated Ethan Kang, a 27-year-old advertising executive from New York, NY, at Season 19’s sixth Rose Ceremony.

Ethan’s elimination left Aven Jones, a 28-year-old sales executive from San Diego, CA; Tino Franco, a 28-year-old general contractor from Playa Del Rey, CA; Tyler Norris is a 25-year-old small business owner from Wildwood, NJ; and Zach Shallcross, a 25-year-old tech executive from Anaheim Hills, CA; as Rachel’s Final 4 bachelors who will now receive hometown dates with The Bachelorette star.

Zach received his hometown date rose during a one-on-one date with Rachel, while Tyler received his rose while he was on a group date with Ethan, Aven, and Tino. Aven and Tino received their roses at The Bachelorette episode’s Rose Ceremony.

Gabby began The Bachelorette episode with six bachelors still competing for her heart and arrived at her group of hometown bachelors via a more convoluted and dramatic series of events.

The Bachelorette star began the show’s visit to Amsterdam by embarking on a one-on-one date with Nate Mitchell, a 33-year-old electrical engineer from Chicago, IL.

However shortly after the date began, Gabby decided to end it and send Nate home because she didn’t feel she was ready to be “a mom” to the divorced bachelor’s six-year-old daughter.

“Nate is an amazing person and an amazing father… but I have more healing and growing to do before I become a mom and my life isn’t at a place where I can fully commit and take on that responsibility whole heartened,” she explained.

“I want to be together so bad, but you can’t. And I don’t know if I should have done it earlier.”

Gabby then went on a group date with her five remaining bachelors: Logan Palmer, a 26-year-old videographer from San Diego, CA,, Erich Schwer, a 29-year-old real estate analyst from Bedminster, NJ; Jason Alabaster, a 30-year-old investment banker from Santa Monica, CA; Johnny DePhillipo, a 25-year-old realtor from Palm Beach Gardens, FL; and Spencer Swies is a 27-year-old venture capitalist from Chicago, IL.

However as Gabby and the bachelors were preparing for the evening portion of the group date, The Bachelorette host Jesse Palmer surprised Gabby with the news that Logan had just tested positive for COVID-19 — resulting in his elimination from the show and the cancellation of the remainder of the group date.

“He’s doing fine, but because we’re trying to take a real abundance of caution for yourself and the rest of the guys, we have to cancel tonight’s cocktail party,” Jesse told Gabby.

Jesse then also informed Erich, Jason, Johnny, and Spencer — who were already waiting for Gabby to arrive at the party location — of the news. But for reasons The Bachelorette broadcast didn’t explain, Jesse didn’t appear to tell the men that Logan had tested positive for COVID-19 only a few hours after they had all been in contact with him.

Instead, Jesse only told the bachelors that “a situation” had occurred.

“As you can probably tell by now, Logan’s not here,” Jesse told the men. “There has been a situation with Logan. And because of that, there is no afterparty.”

Both Gabby and the men were disappointed by the party’s cancellation.

“I’m feeling really sad.  I have four men left, and I really, really needed tonight to help me figure out who was going to hometowns,” Gabby said.

While Gabby’s four remaining men hoped Logan’s unexpected elimination would result in them becoming Gabby’s Final 4 hometown bachelors by default, The Bachelorette episode’s Rose Ceremony began with Gabby announcing she had decided to depart from the show’s usual format and only have three hometown dates.

“I feel I’m not at the point where I can meet for men’s families,” she told the bachelors. “I do only feel comfortable given out three roses.”

Gabby then proceeded to give roses to Erich, Jason, and Johnny — resulting in Spencer’s elimination.

The Bachelorette’s next episode will air Monday, September 22 at 8PM ET/PT on ABC.
