Noah Reid is making the move from one small town to another: The “Schitt’s Creek” alum is set to lead the Edgewater-set “Sheriff Country” medical spin-off in early development at CBS, TVLine has confirmed.
Reid will appear in one episode of “Sheriff Country” Season 2 as Dr. Hudson “Hud” Henshaw. Reid’s character would go on to headline the spin-off should CBS give the untitled offshoot the green light.
Reid’s Dr. Hudson “Hud” Henshaw is the Chief of Emergency Medicine at Edgewater Memorial Hospital, known as “Med Edge.” Charming and quick-witted, but rough-around-the-edges, Hud was born and raised in the outlaw hinterland known as “Deadwater,” per the official character description. He is the proud son of convicted felons, yet refused to take the family’s drug money to pay for medical school. He is described as a passionate doctor who embodies his oath to “first do no harm,” yet is not one to shy away from a good bar fight. Though he is deeply committed to the community he grew up in, he remains a restless soul.
Reid is perhaps best known for his role as Patrick on “Schitt’s Creek.” He recently starred in Prime Video’s “Outer Range” opposite Josh Brolin and Imogen Poots. His other TV credits include “Murder in a Small Town,” “The Vampire Lestat,” and “Yaga.”
Deadline was the first to report the news.
Everything we know about the Sheriff Country spin-off
It was first reported in April 2026 that CBS was eyeing a “Fire Country” medical offshoot, with plans to introduce its lead character in the second season of “Sheriff Country.” Fans will recall that the “Sheriff Country” protagonist Mickey Fox (Morena Baccarin), “Fire Country” matriarch Sharon Leone’s stepsister, was similarly introduced by first appearing in a Season 2 episode of the flagship drama.
The potential spin-off would be executive-produced by “Sheriff Country” showrunner/executive producer Matt Lopez; “Fire Country” and “Sheriff Country” co-creators/executive producers Max Thieriot (who also stars in “Fire Country” as Bode Leone), Joan Rater, and Tony Phelan; and Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed.
“Sheriff Country” returns on Friday, October 9, at 8/7c, followed by “Fire Country” at 9/8c.
