The Way Home premiered its fourth and final season on Sunday, April 19.
One thing that caught the audience’s eye was a tribute card at the beginning of the episode dedicated to Kimberly Hills Leibe.
“In Loving Memory of Kimberly Hills Leibe,” the opening read, along with. “Fare thee well, dear friend…“
It was followed by a Great Gatsby poem from 1925, which served as a fitting segue between the tribute and the show’s time-traveling theme.
Naturally, fans were curious about who Kimberly Hills Leibe was and why her connection prompted the moment of remembrance.
Decider was able to provide some insight into the emotional sendoff, noting that the show’s EP revealed that Leibe was a fan of the series, who quickly became a “dear friend and ultimately a true inspiration to our entire Way Home family.”
It was not immediately clear how she passed, but it’s a beautiful way to remember her life and the impact she had on the cast and crew of the Hallmark series, proving that they have the utmost respect for fans and the community that has made the show such a success.
Season 4 serves as a bittersweet (and premature) ending for the series that has blended hope with time-traveling and magical elements, as the Landry women are also moving into a new phase in their lives, as audiences saw in the first few minutes of the episode, as Del wrestles with becoming an empty nester again, Alice looks forward to graduation and college, finally living in the future, and Kat plans to move in with Elliott just down the road, and wonders why he hasn’t proposed just yet.
Though a peek into a future timeline seems to put a rest to those concerns, as we know that in the present, Elliott is waiting for the perfect moment, while in the future, the three generations of Landry ladies are heading off to a wedding, presumably Kats.
