Average Joe Season 2 Is Bigger, Wilder, and More Unhinged — Stars Tease What’s Ahead

- Advertisment -

We’ve been waiting patiently for Average Joe Season 2 to arrive, and the time has finally arrived!

The dark comedy aired nearly two years ago, leaving viewers with a somewhat hopeful but incomplete story after a season that was equal parts mystery, drama, comedy, and an all-around good time.

The story of a son, his family, and his friends getting caught up in a war with the Russian mafia resonated with viewers, and the show has only expanded in scope in the upcoming season.

One of the greatest parts of a second season is seeing how much the show expands, because with an extra set of hours to further a story, it’s a perfect opportunity to up the ante.

While Average Joe Season 1 saw most of the action in Joe’s hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Season 2 will shift to Africa.

The location change itself completely changes things for everyone, with new adventures and new villains awaiting them.

It was a pleasure to chat with stars Deon Cole, Michael Trucco, Malcolm Barrett, and Cynthia McWilliams about what fans can expect from this larger-than-life upcoming season.

Cathy & Leon’s Relationship Continues to Evolve

Leon and Cathy Montgomery’s marriage has been far from perfect, but one recurring theme throughout Average Joe Season 1 was seeing their dynamic strengthen after everything thrown at them.

And heading into this season, it sounds like the two still aren’t on solid ground.

“We know she almost died and Leon saves her and they spend the rest of the season kind of having to pay for that,” McWilliams told us when asked about what we’ll see from the pair moving forward.

(Paramount+)

“There is a feeling of, I think, gratitude or, you know, that Leon might expect from her, or feeling like he did the right thing.

“And I think that Kathy just questions the way in which it was done, and that’s gonna be a point of contention between them for pretty much the rest of the season.”

Hearing that these two won’t always be on the same page is hardly a surprise, but their dynamic is such a bright spot in the series, and the chemistry between the pair translates off-screen as well.

The two are a riot together, and you can see our full conversation with the pair, including some teases about the upcoming season below.

Joe’s In a Bad Place & Touch Has a Bit of a Complex

Average Joe Season 1 Episode 10 ended with Joe’s wife, Angela, and daughter, Jennifer, deciding to disappear for a while after everything they went through.

It’s a major blow to Joe, who loves his family above all else, but it’s something he has to take in stride.

Coming into the new season, Cole stated, “Joe’s losing it. Like, he’s going crazy. He’s not in the right mind space at all.”

That makes a lot of sense considering he’s lost his family, killed countless people, and gotten the people he loves mixed up in something that snowballed into absolute chaos.

On the flipside of that, best friend Touch will enter the season in a different kind of headspace. A bit of a complex, one could say.

“He’s a bit more emboldened in his own delusion,” Trucco explained. “There’s a certain amount of delusion.

“I’ve been using this term: invincibility. He has this certain sense of invincibility that informs his insanity. So, he’s a little more volatile this time, a little more intense this season than he was in season two, whereas he was a bit more apathetic in season one.”

Cole and Trucco also told us about the changing dynamics this season and how this new season expands the first in the full chat below.

Interviews like this take time and care — and we hope it shows.
