The Big Brother Season 28 double eviction ended with some shocking results.
Not only was Barrett sent packing first, but the biggest competition threat, Yash, was evicted soon after. Both players left after surprising challenge wins that flipped the momentum.
Anything can happen during a double eviction. Sometimes, we’re left to see how the votes turn.
Unsurprisingly, they’re not the first big threats to go out back-to-back in a double eviction. (Looking at you, Daniele & Jeff on Big Brother Season 13!)
Big threats get targeted; it’s sometimes the only chance to get them out.
What is surprising, however, is the polarizing reaction to Melody’s decision.
During the second half of the double eviction, Melody won her first Head of Household (HOH). She initially nominated the reality TV icons, Dee and Devens. But after Devens won the Power of Veto (POV), she nominated Yash instead of Drew or Taylor.
Subsequently, Yash got evicted when Drew shifted his vote to keep Dee.
But the big debate at hand: Did Melody make the right call in her nomination?
Was It the Right Choice?
Based on everything Melody knew: Yes.
Going into the eviction, her top choice was Rick Devens. She’s wanted the reality TV icons out for weeks now, and between the two, he hurts her game more than keeping Dee in.
Devens is a serious strategic, social, and physical threat.
Of course, he won the POV. There’s nothing she could do at that point.
So, for the nominations, she’s going to look at her second-biggest threat: Yash!
The glaring facts that people keep forgetting are the many ways that Yash has negatively impacted Melody’s game up until her HOH.
Firstly, he just nominated her for eviction on his second HOH. Worse, he wanted her gone if the votes went his way.

Since he couldn’t get Drew, he plotted to evict Barrett or Melody. But if all were said and done, he wouldn’t care if they sent her packing.
Yash didn’t value her game.
Just weeks earlier, he voted to evict her during the Lyric blindside of Big Brother Season 28 Week 4. The house saved Melody, not Yash.
And even if he said Drew was his biggest target, Yash’s actions never aligned with that goal.
He’s the same person who made a deal with Drew to throw the POV. Sure, Yash was sick during the POV competition, but he spent hours competing. Drew only won because Yash threw it.
Taking out the surefire target refocused the reality TV icons and Taylor towards a new person.
Had Melody not won the BB Blockbuster, her game would have been over. Barrett was right behind her, and had he won, she would be leaving, not Taylor.
The Trust Was Dwindling.
Yash’s lies and decisions are at the heart of his downfall. Drew’s vote and Melody’s nomination aren’t random.
For example, if Yash and Taylor had stuck to their word, Dee would’ve been evicted during Big Brother Season 28 Week 9. They evicted Angela instead.
Let’s take that in for a moment: Yash chose an outcome where he saw Angela as the best eviction target, not Dee.
He decided to keep her in as a shield, but he kept one of the strongest pairs in the house. Up to that point, Dee and Devens have had no signs of ever turning on each other.
Plus, in most cases, Angela would never beat Yash in a challenge. Dee, even with two wins, has shown she can do decently well in the Big Brother games.
So, why would Melody trust Yash and Taylor 100% not to vote out Drew? Didn’t they blindside her the week prior?
Yash and Taylor, especially, have said they wanted Drew out. Regardless of what they’re saying now, the past conversations made their target clear.
And if she hadn’t won HOH, there’s a strong chance the pair could’ve continued riding with the icons. Taylor was second in HOH, so we’d need to trust Melody, Devens, and Yash.
I can see Melody voting to evict Dee in that case, but Yash could keep his shield up once again.
Even if we look past all the recent events of the double eviction, the BB Bribe cannot be ignored.
Yash misplayed that power completely. It’s not only about accepting the deal; it’s also about how he communicated with his fellow houseguests.
Why still lie about the requirements? The power was revealed, and Angela was calling him out.
If he had been open with Melody and Drew about what the deal entailed, the backlash would’ve landed better. Sure, they’d be frustrated, but they’d understand why he couldn’t nominate the icons.
Instead, he created a scenario where he made the others feel betrayed. He pushed a story where he deliberately went after Drew/Melody/Barrett, instead of saying that his hands were tied.
Drew’s Messy Gameplay.
The biggest counterargument for the Yash nomination and eviction is that Drew is the icons’ pet.
This is true. Drew is playing a very messy game; there is no way he’s winning Big Brother Season 28. No one respects how he’s playing.
It’s also a fact, however, that Drew is Melody’s biggest ally.
He’s betrayed her, lied to her, and let her down many times. But his actions have also shown that he’ll help Melody more than target her.
When push comes to shove, Drew has never nominated or voted to evict her.
Let’s also make this clear: we’re not defending Drew, or picking favorites in a Yash vs. Drew vs. Dee scenario.
Drew’s gameplay has been so frustrating, especially for any Big Brother fans who dream of playing the game. Seriously, why throw away your shot for returning Survivor players?
But from a pure gameplay mindset, it doesn’t make sense for Melody to nominate and potentially lose her closest ally based on the evidence.
Regardless of how people feel about Drew (and Yash or Dee), Melody’s gameplay would be critiqued and scrutinized if Drew had been voted out. People would say she should know better, or they’d call it a brilliant move by Yash/Taylor to flip and blindside Melody.
Yash played a great competitive and social game, but it’s also a great move to nominate the comp beast who targeted you. Like, he’s won six challenges!
Hindsight is 20/20, and Melody or Drew could most likely be voted out next. We shouldn’t minimize this big move; there’s a world of past actions and decisions that led to this moment.
