This episode was strangely enjoyable for me. Honestly, going into it, I was expecting to not be that much of a fan because it was based back around OFI again, but now I’m starting to question if I would like to see Severide at OFI.
First of all, Stellaride are such a great couple. The fact that the whole thing revolves around something entirely different to what we are used to but doesn’t make me miss the usual format is great. I actually really liked that we got to see them both off shift. I know it was technically on shift, but it was still great.
It was nice to have a little mention of what happened whilst Severide was away in Alabama, and despite it being a tough spot for Stellaride, still having Kelly acknowledge that the reason he came back was more important.
I enjoyed having Vanmeter back in the episode, and getting a little update on him after the way last season ended. Also, that we got to see Stella and him interact and not just him and Kelly.
I am definitely glad that we finally found out what happened with Severide’s decision to stay at 51, especially since I was convinced that the season would start with him at OFI. It came out in the best way possible too. Having Stella be the one to say how Kelly really feels right and it makes all the more sense why he hasn’t seemed overly comfortable in the last couple of episodes.
It might be quite cool to watch Severide actually go into OFI and for us to see it on screen because often it is something that happens off screen. Although I do think either way Severide will have to make a trade-off. Either he has to give up being a smoke eater and 51, or he has to give up something that is ingrained in his DNA.
This episode actually showed me that I would be okay with watching him go down that route. However, that might just be because this was the first time Stella possibly running 51 has come up, and I certainly don’t hate that idea. I actually think that would be awesome.
Chicago Fire rarely ever creeps me out, but the end of this episode had me both freaked out and so excited at the same time. I am such a huge lover of multi-episode-spanning storylines, but this definitely feels like Severide and possibly Stella’s lives are in danger.
There is so much on the line, and I am so excited to see where they take this.
