The tension begins when Gabi enters Trent’s house and finds him and Sir pointing guns at each other. Sir tries to convince Gabi to come with him, but Gabi tells Trent to shoot him. Just then, the power goes out, and Sir is taken away. This sets off a chain of events that places Gabi in a tough spot.
Gabi is told by the Captain that she will be arrested, prompting her to plan her next steps carefully. Trent, knowing that Gabi is in danger, urges her to run, but Gabi refuses. Instead, she decides to continue working on her cases, including one involving Jared, a college student who was outed as gay during a fraternity hazing. Jared’s story becomes central to the plot as Gabi tries to help him and uncover the truth behind the actions of the fraternity.
Meanwhile, Sir, who had been captured, becomes increasingly upset in an RV. His associate texts him, urging him to let go of Gabi, but Sir remains determined to get her. He calls the Dutch people again, claiming he and Gabi will meet them in 24 hours. On the other side of the story, Gabi has an important conversation with Jared’s parents, who are dealing with the loss of their older son, Jacob, while still trying to understand their younger son’s struggles.
Lacey reveals Gina is planning a second anniversary party for M&A. Gabi confides in her, revealing that she will likely be arrested soon. Lacey is concerned that Gabi is a flight risk and may not make bail. This conversation brings up memories of Gabi’s past, including a flashback to when she was excited about going to college. In the flashback, Gina urges her to fix things with her father, while Gabi reassures little Lacey that they will always stay close.
In a key investigation scene, Gabi and Margaret interrogate members of the fraternity, learning that one of the frat boys had led a girl on before revealing that it was all part of a bet. Gabi reassures the girl that she is beautiful and presses the frat boys for answers about Jared. Lacey interrogates Jared’s dorm mate, who speaks highly of him. During an interruption from campus security, the dorm mate helps Gabi and Lacey cover up their investigation. Margaret finds Jared’s journal, which hints at possible suicidal thoughts, but Ethan hesitates to read it, worried about privacy concerns.

As the investigation continues, it is revealed that the university has been negligent in protecting its students. There have been multiple 9-1-1 calls about suicidal students and assaults that were never fully processed. Dhan learns that Sir has targeted both Trent and Gabi, which causes tension with Ethan, who does not want to see Dhan in more danger for Gabi. Gabi, undeterred, takes matters into her own hands by organizing a press conference and threatening to expose the university’s poor track record unless they release the security footage related to Jared’s case.
The footage reveals a disturbing altercation between Jared and the frat house president, Brian, during which Brian admits to being in a relationship with Jared. Gina, who has learned lip reading for Lacey, helps uncover this crucial detail. Meanwhile, Christian meets with Sir, asking for help to disappear after losing everything in the manhunt. Sir refuses and knocks Christian out, leaving him behind.

Margaret, who has struggled with Gabi’s lies, admits that her biggest disappointment was in herself. She wants to fix their relationship and is ready to work together. As tensions rise, Trent gets a call about finding Sir’s RV, with Christian inside. Lacey, finally able to let go of her fears, forgives Gabi and gives her the friendship necklace from their childhood, symbolizing their bond.
The story ends with Sir breaking into M&A and disabling the security cameras, setting the stage for more conflict and danger to come.
Overall, this story is filled with complex relationships, emotional moments, and twists that keep the reader on edge. Gabi’s determination to help others, despite the personal risks she faces, is a central theme throughout. Her team’s loyalty and support are tested as they confront difficult situations, making for a suspenseful and engaging narrative.
