In One Move Silo Makes It Clear the Poison Can’t Be Outside

From the beginning of Silo, everyone has been told that it’s not safe outside.

As we’ve found out, the desolate world on the cameras is the real view of the world outside; it looks like nothing can grow.

That means the land has to be toxic, but in one small move on Silo Season 3 Episode 8, the show makes it clear that the poison isn’t out there.

Lucas Shouldn’t Have Survived

The beginning of the hour gets us back to the outside world in the aftermath of Kennedy and Lucas being shot at.

We’d already known that Kennedy survived, and within the opening moments, we learned Lucas was alive but had been shot.

This one moment tells us everything.

If that poison were outside, it would have gotten through Lucas’ suit. 

The gunshot caused a hole, allowing the toxin to get in. 

Even the kids inside Silo 17 asked them about the poison and worried about them bringing it inside, but both Lucas and Kennedy made it clear that they were fine.

Lucas needed immediate medical attention for the gunshot wound, but they didn’t have the poison on them.

Nobody mentioned that the poison should have gotten through the suit. Not once.

We know that the poison takes time to work. 

People have made it from the silo door to the tree, and they’ve usually cleaned before they start walking away from the silo.

With that in mind, Lucas should have been dead either by the time he got to Silo 17 or shortly after.

In fact, he should probably have been dead sooner, considering the poison would have had a direct way into the bloodstream!

Since he survived and is now in recovery, there was no poison in the air.

Hopefully, it doesn’t take too long for someone to point out that a hole in a cleaning suit would let poison in.

The Poison Has to Be Controlled

There is poison somewhere, though. People have died on Silo.

There’s a whole safeguard in place, and the land is completely desolate, as if it’s still being affected by some sort of nuclear bomb.

So, what’s the deal? Where is this poison?

It has to be under the Earth. If it’s seeping into the land in some way, it would explain why nothing has been able to grow since people went into the silos.

We know some pipes carry the poison, as we learned when Solo’s mom sacrificed herself to make sure the rest of Silo 17 survived.

It’s all a matter of control. Pierre and those behind the creation of the silos have done this for a completely different reason than saving humanity.

They want control. The only way to get that is to make it seem impossible for people to live outside.

Without poison outside, the Algorithm and whoever is running Silo 1 would need to make it seem like it leads to certain death.

The only way would be to inflict the poison.

If there’s a pipe that carries the poison into an entire silo as a safeguard, there must be other pipes that spray it elsewhere.

How about the “decontamination” process as people go out to clean?

Why are they being decontaminated before they go outside?

I’d even question the need to burn off the sealed area when someone leaves. 

Fire is used to cleanse, but what would there be to cleanse except poison?

Hopefully, Silo Season 3 reveals the truth before the end, because Lucas’ situation just gave it all away.
