The Good Doctor – My Way – Review: Help

Spoilers

We´re here for another week! The Good Doctor 5×15 “My Way” is a transition episode where the show returns to what it always was, moving us and teaching us valuable lessons that stay with us after turning off our TV. Time for a review!
Here we go!
Glassy…you have a lot to learn. The toxic masculinity that my beloved Glassy gave off in this episode is hard for me to forgive. But I can do it because, in the end, thanks to Morgan, he realized his problem. It’s not about not giving (good) advice to a woman, it’s about not patronizing her, trying to make it look like she has no idea and that you’re an expert on the subject just because you have a penis.
That’s how Glassy treated Jordan and Lea and it’s not okay. It´s the definition of toxic masculinity and I´m glad that Glassy, in the end, understood that condescension and believing himself better than them just because he had an idea to improve an already brilliant plan, weren’t good at all.
Bullying is horrible. I identified with the harassment that Shaun’s patient suffered. He was suffering from such harassment that he preferred to self-harm so that he could stay in the hospital, safe, just a little longer. Fortunately, I didn´t suffer physical harassment, my experience was about verbal and psychological harassment, and no one… no one was there for me. At first, like the patient at the beginning of the episode, I was embarrassed to tell my parents or any adult who could help me.
Later, when I did…it also didn’t fix anything and things didn’t get any better. As I said, I didn’t have anyone. I’m glad Shaun’s patient has him.
In another order of things, we must seriously consider a plan against bullying with REAL punishments for bullies because, in most cases, the bullied is the most affected, in many cases having to change schools.
Shaun and Lea’s decision to make the documentary seems to be the right one. At first, I didn’t like the idea of their wedding becoming a public spectacle (and I still don’t like that idea) but it’s indeed important for the world to see Shaun’s story, not just to help people like him to realize that autism is not a limitation to fulfill their dreams, but for people who don´t have autism to understand.
Representation matters. In all aspects. And this goes way beyond The Good Doctor. We need and deserve to see someone like us on our screens, to feel reflected and understand that, even if the world rejects us, there is nothing wrong with us.
Even though The Good Doctor 5×15 “My Way” is a transitional episode, we picked up the rhythm of the show after last week’s episode and the show was once again one that moves us with the stories and emotional conflicts of the patients, that have a direct reflection on our favorite characters.
This is where our The Good Doctor review ends. We will be back next week with a new one. Stay tuned!
