First revealed in 2015, Between the World and Me was written as a letter to Coates’ teenage son, and recounts the writer’s experiences rising up in Baltimore’s inside metropolis and his rising worry of each day violence in opposition to the Black neighborhood. The narrative explores Coates’ daring notion that American society structurally helps white supremacy.
