When it comes to shows that have been off the air for quite a while, it’s never a guarantee the audience will come back, but we should have known to never underestimate Ted Lasso, which made a triumphant Season 4 return on Apple TV at the start of August.
According to a new Nielsen report, Ted Lasso‘s Season 4 premiere episode garnered 296.6 million minutes of viewing between August 4 and August 5 on the streaming platform. Those kinds of numbers outpace Apple’s other appointment-viewing titles like Severance and Pluribus, according to Variety, making it the biggest launch for the platform to date.
On August 5, Ted Lasso Season 4 was the most-streamed show in the United States with over 200 million minutes viewed that day. In terms of estimated viewership, dividing the total number of time the episode was streamed by its 42-minute runtime, the Season 4 premiere episode of Ted Lasso seemingly reached about 7.1 million viewers.

The historic comeback is surely a welcome one for the cozy comedy, which wrapped its third season back in 2023. As fans have seen so far in Season 4, Ted Lasso brought the titular coach, played by Jason Sudeikis, back to England to help coach A.F.C. Richmond’s Lady Greyhounds, the new women’s team started by Keeley (Juno Temple) and Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham).
While the focus may be on a whole new team, and even a new coach with Tanya Reynolds‘ Alice Chilton, the familiarity of this series is surely responsible for garnering such a strong turnout. In addition to Sudeikis, Temple, and Waddingham, Ted Lasso Season 4 sees the return of favorites like Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent, Jeremy Swift as Leslie Higgins, and Brendan Hunt as Coach Beard, among others.
Meanwhile, the show’s newest recruits with Reynolds are Jude Mack, Faye Marsay, Rex Hayes, Aisling Sharkey, Abbie Hern, and Grant Feely, who steps in to play Ted’s son, Henry.
