‘Big Brother’s Lyric Medeiros Talks Eviction, Angela Murray, and More (Exclusive)

Lyric Medeiros sang her last song in the Big Brother house. The Season 28 Houseguests pulled off a blindside, and the second half of this year’s showmance went home.

After HOH Haley Thogmartin promised Lyric and Yash Patel that she wouldn’t put them up if she won, she went back on her word. Haley had originally nominated her alliance member, Drew Campbell, alongside his flirtmance Melody Morris, and Taylor Brown.

However, when Taylor won the POV, plans changed. Haley nominated Lyric, but only as a pawn. Haley planned to get Drew out, and then Melody, if he won the Blockbuster.

But the house decided to flip on Haley and other members of the alliance. Only Yash, Kamu Kirk, and Chuk Anyanwu voted to keep Lyric. Everyone else flipped, and Melody was evicted in an eight-to-three vote.

Two weeks ago, Lyric’s showmance, Rome Seymour, was voted out of the house. Lyric told us that she revealed to Rome before he left that she is an attorney. “So, I hope that showed him trust from the get-go,” she said. They will now be reunited sooner than they thought. Here’s what the former American Idol contestant had to say about her time in the house.

How are you doing?

Lyric Medeiros: I’m so good.

How hard was it being up against one of your closest allies this week?

Oh, so tough, so tough, but I think continuously in this game, I was up against all of my allies, and so it was just a rough start, really.

Did any of the votes shock you? Only three people voted to keep you.

You know, no. I knew the minute that I went up as a re-nom that I was probably going home.

Because actually, until the day before, a couple hours before, you were just a pawn, and they were trying to get Drew out and everything, so it was a whole blindside. What was going through your head after that?  The house must have been crazy.

So I’ve heard. What was going through my head was that I prepared myself those last three days, knowing that there’s a possibility I’d go home, and the reason is I’ve watched a lot of Big Brother, and I know that when you have someone who’s won competitions and two people who haven’t … ff that person who wins competitions does not win the Blockbuster, they’re going home because when you have someone who hasn’t won competitions and someone who has, and they’re sitting on the block, you’re gonna take the shot at the person that has won competitions because they’re on the block. You can get them out now. Why wouldn’t you?

And I think maybe that’s where the flip happened. I don’t know. I thought the whole time I was going home regardless. Yash, Chuk, and Kamu were the three people telling me, “You’re good, you’re good, you’re good,” and those end up being they ended up being the three people that voted me to stay. And honestly, I think that’s the best way to go out because I love all three of those guys. They truly are my people. I can see myself hanging out with them outside of this, but I don’t love them as much as I love my man Rome.

Do you think if you told the other Houseguests you were an attorney, it would have put a bigger target on your back?

Oh, 100%. Everyone knows in Big Brother, if you’re an attorney, people get you out fast because attorneys are known to be snakes, and they’re good at negotiating. So, I would have been gone for sure. But I’m gone anyway. *shrugs*

In the HOH competition, Haley promised you and Yash that she wouldn’t put you up, and then she re-nommed you. What was your reaction to that? Were you surprised?

Yes, I was super surprised when Haley offered me safety and told me that me and Yash were safe, and then she went back on her word. Did the idea of me calling her out during the live eviction cross my head? Yes, but at that point, I really didn’t see it being worth it to do that. Haley had no vote. Her people were voting to keep me, and so that would kind of work against me. And I knew the minute that Haley was HOH that this was going to be a rough week. I didn’t have a good conversation with her, and if any of her original nominees came down, I knew I was going up. So I knew from the beginning that Haley would be willing to put me up on the block and have no issue with it. Did I expect the people to vote me out? A part of me said yes because, yeah, you can never expect anything to go the way that you hope in that house. People lie straight to your face, and they do it with a smile, which is the worst part.

Do you think telling the other side of the house that you were turning on your allies is what made them vote you out, or put you up?

Possibly. I’m not too sure. Honestly, I think it goes back to the main thing about Big Brother, and that’s if you have a competitor that’s sitting up on the block next to someone who hasn’t won competitions, you send the competitor home when you have the chance. And I think it ultimately came down to that. Now I’m learning that there was a flip on the day of the live eviction, and it was done by Dee [Valladares] and [Rick] Devens. And Dee told me she wanted to work with me the minute that she was HOH, and I trusted her. She pulled me for a conversation in the gym a day before the live evictions, and she asked me to know who I’d put up.

And in the back of my head, I knew she was working with Chuk, Haley, and Kamu, so I told her I wouldn’t put them up, hoping that that would make her see that I am someone who’s going to keep her allies safe. Also, she pitched a strategy to me. She was like, “Go to Chuck, Haley, and Kamu and offer me and say I’m coming for Dee.” And I’m thinking, “What the heck is she doing right now?” Because I would never do that to someone I’m working with. I’m never gonna throw your name like that out unless I have to. Like if my back is pushed up against the wall, and we’re sitting on the block next to each other, but that’s when I knew I was being played. I was like, “Oh, something’s gonna happen. I’m being played.” So, saw that one coming.

If you had won HOH, would you have turned on Melody and Mallory? Would you have gone with the other side of the house?

Absolutely not. Absolutely not. I said from the beginning of the game, if I was HOH, I would put up Drew, Barrett [Pfeiffer] and someone else. Now knowing that Dee and Devens were after me, I definitely would have taken that shot if I had the chance to, but I wouldn’t have taken it so early on just because they’re so influential in the game. I would have put up Drew and Barrett because they clearly were working both sides, but in the back of my head, I knew that they were part of that alliance because they were up in that HOH room and they all voted to get Rome out. And they were like, “We’re gonna work together to get Rome out.” And Dee kept telling me it was just to get Rome out. It was just to get Rome out. No, you don’t have such a big number in the early beginning working together and not forming an alliance. Do you know what I mean? So in the back of my head, I always knew that it was an eight-person alliance. I think at certain times I was convinced it was a six-person alliance. Nonetheless, I knew that the TV icons were working with Chuk, Haley, and Kamu. I tried to use that to my advantage. Perhaps it backfired, but honestly, I’m just so grateful for the whole experience. And I know stuff’s about to go down in that house, so maybe it’s a good thing I got out now.

What was your reaction to the TV icons coming in this season?

I didn’t know any of them except for Angela [Murray]. I watched Angela’s season, and I know that she flips on her people left and right, and so I was very wary of Angela. I only had a few conversations with her. They’re all friendly, just me telling her, “I’m not out to get you.” I made guacamole with her. I helped her make guacamole multiple times. I ate all of her cookies. They’re very good. We had a good relationship. She was she was very sweet to me, but in the back of my head, I always knew that she wanted me out, probably, and wasn’t the most genuine person. So, I kept that in mind, and I kept my distance for that reason. I didn’t want her to blow up on me one day or something, but I kept my distance for a reason because I saw in her past season that she did flip on people and she did tell people different things. So, yeah, kept that distance.

How did it feel to win the pickleball veto, knowing that Roman was a pickleball coach?

You do not understand! Winning that pickleball veto was so sweet. Not only because my mom plays pickleball every single day, but my family and I played pickleball every single Sunday. And the cherry on top is Rome being a pickleball coach. Like, are you joking? It couldn’t have been a more perfect veto competition. Thank you, Big Brother. I’m so hashtag blessed. That was fantastic. It felt amazing. I was glowing, and I think I also felt sad because I wanted Rome to be there for me to celebrate with him and for him to see it. But also selfishly, I’m like … Rome would have beat my ass in this game so good, so I’m glad that it was me competing in this veto competition and not him. But I know he was cheering me on from home when I won that pickleball competition. I just constantly thought about him the whole time, and how he would want me to win it, and so I locked in, and that’s what we did. We won that veto.

At this point in the game, who do you think is in the best position to win?

Yash. I hope Yash wins with all my heart. I love him so much, and I genuinely like I pray to God that He wins this thing because he is so deserving and he is such a good person.
