The official cause of death has been revealed for Breaking Bad actor RJ Mitte, who was found dead at his Texas home on Monday, October 12, 2026, aged 34.

According to Page Six, citing an inquest report from Cameron County, Texas, Mitte’s cause of death was officially ruled a suicide by hanging. He was found by his mother and pronounced dead at 1:32 pm on October 12. The report also noted that an autopsy and toxicology tests had been requested, although their findings were not included.

Mitte’s representative previously confirmed his death by suicide but did not share further details. “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” the rep told the outlet last month.

The actor’s mother, Dyna, previously told NBC News that she discovered her son when she visited to bring him lunch. “So I called him at 11. He didn’t answer, so I picked up lunch and went to take it to him, and that’s when I discovered him,” she recalled.

She noted how for three months she’d “been offering for him to go to therapy, trying to get him to go there, but he was like, ‘No, I’ve got it. It’s okay. I’m handling it.’” Dyna said she wishes she’d taken him “screaming and yelling” to get therapy, adding that she believes his decision to take his own life was a “spur of the moment” decision.

Mitte was best known for playing Walt Jr., the son of Bryan Cranston‘s Walter White on the hit AMC series Breaking Bad. At the time of his passing, he was working on community and arts projects in his hometown of Brownsville, Texas.

Cranston paid tribute to his on-screen son last month, revealing he was in “deep despair” over Mitte’s tragic passing.

“I met him when he was only 14 years old, when he was cast as Walter White Jr., a part he played with such joy and enthusiasm,” the actor wrote. “Born with Cerebral Palsy, he never – ever – allowed that challenge to be an excuse for anything.”

Cranston also revealed he and Mitte were planning to have lunch together soon, adding, “I don’t know if that lunch would have changed his future. But I do know that I loved him, and thoroughly enjoyed being with him throughout the years on the series, and after the spotlight on Breaking Bad dimmed… I’ll miss you, son.
