Jenna Bush Hager has recently made headlines with the upcoming NBC series, Line of Fire, which she is set to executive produce. Just as the show is set to premiere, the series’ creator has opened up about what fans can expect. With the series’ political storylines, one ongoing question was also addressed: just how much the series drew from the Today host’s life.
The Upcoming NBC Series, Line Of Fire, Has Been Described As An Action Thriller

Recently, news came out that Jenna would executive produce an action thriller series for NBC, Line of Fire. The series revolves around a family of various law enforcement agents.
The series is set to make its debut on September 21, 2026. In the meantime, series creator Joshua Safran spoke with Entertainment Weekly. During the conversation, he noted that Jenna’s family background served as a great firsthand account when developing the series.
As Safran shared, “It’s been really fun, because it’s not very often where you are writing about a first daughter in the White House and one text away is your producer who is a first daughter who lived in the White House.” He also noted that Jenna’s connections came in handy.
At Least One Planned Storyline Was Something That Jenna Previously Denied Having Happened
As Safran explained, “We also have a Secret Service consultant who’s incredible, who was actually on young Barbara [Bush]‘s detail and worked in the Obama and Clinton regimes. And we have a U.S. Marshall consultant, and an FBI consultant. But we also have Jenna, who is like the ultimate consultant.”
That said, many are already curious about just how much the series draws on Jenna’s own life and how accurate it is. However, Safran shared that Jenna made it clear just how much she wants the show to be based on her life.
The former first daughter didn’t want viewers to think the series was a retelling of her life. Safran explained, “I love that, initially, when we first talked about this. She was sort of like, ‘Well, I don’t want this to reflect on what my lived experience was,’ because we don’t want anyone to think that this is a show about what Jenna lived through.”
Notably, the series will feature a love story of sorts between the daughter of the president and the Secret Service agent assigned to protect her. For her part, Jenna previously denied being part of any such relationship during an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show. However, she famously joked that this was a “missed opportunity.”
That said, Safran noted Jenna was fond of the storyline on the show. He shared, “The second she heard the pitch, she was like, ‘Ooh, no, I like that.’”
