What To Know
- David Boreanaz will star in the reboot of The Rockford Files, coming in January 2027.
- His son will make his big debut opposite him in the series premiere.
It’s going to be a family affair on David Boreanaz‘s new series, The Rockford Files, with his son, Jaden, having a role to play opposite him in the series’ first episode.
“You show up on set, you let it go, you just do your thing and live the moment, and he lived it pretty hard,” David Boreanaz said at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival (via Deadline). “He got me a few times. He was hitting me with this stick. I had a pad in the back of my leg. Well, that pad was great, but the stick ended up here a couple times on my calf, and I was pinned down.”
The Rockford Files follows David Boreanaz’s James Rockford, who, right after being paroled after doing time for a crime he didn’t commit, returns to his life as a private investigator. He uses his charm and wit to solve cases in Los Angeles, quickly finding himself in the crosshairs of both local police and organized crime.
David’s son Jaden, is going to play one of the people with whom Rockford runs into some trouble and who roughs him up. “It’s his big debut and the first time we’ve worked together,” The Rockford Files star said of his son. (According to IMDb, Jaden did appear in an episode of Bones.)
Also at the festival, David detailed what to expect in the immediate aftermath of Rockford being paroled. “Within two days, he finds himself solving a case, and then there’s an even bigger case where people are after him, like the Mob and conmen, who he’s been involved with in the past. What I love about him is that he always gets the job done,” he said.
David has consistently been working since his days on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, following that up with Bones, then SEAL Team, which ended in 2024. As that series wrapped, he spoke with TV Insider about his future.
“I don’t sit down and go, ‘That’s going to be the next thing,’” he said while discussing how he feels about the end of SEAL Team in December 2024. “I have some really great fruits of labor that are paying off right now that are going to bring some really nice opportunities for me come the new year. And I don’t sit back and say, ‘Well, this is the next series I’m going to do.’” Instead, he looks at if “it makes sense for me and also the character and what I would like to do.”
He’d also said at the time that he would “probably shy away from a network series these days just because of the time and the amount that’s ordered. It’s just a lot of work.” But clearly, this role was one he couldn’t say no to.
In fact, at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival, he also revealed that he’d been talking to NBC about another series when The Rockford Files was presented to him. “I was in development at NBC with a show called Doctor Vigilante,” he shared.
