What To Know
- Kelly Ripa returned to Live With Kelly and Mark after a two-week break.
- Ripa took time off from the show to recover from a recent gum graft surgery.
- Upcoming episodes of the show will be prerecorded, as the series is on its annual summer break.
Kelly Ripa is officially back on Live With Kelly and Mark, but her return comes with a catch.
Ripa joined Mark Consuelos at the Live hosting desk during the show’s Monday, August 10, episode, which was prerecorded. In addition to opening segments such as “Stump Mark” and “Travel Trivia,” the episode also featured an interview with reality star Teresa Giudice, a summer cooking segment, and the daily “The Inbox” segment.
The episode marked Ripa’s return to Live following a two-week break from the show. Ripa took time off to recover from a recent gum graft surgery. Stars such as Kevin Jonas, Mila Kunis, Pamela Adlon, and Scott Foley filled in for Ripa during her first week off, while last week’s guest hosts included Sarah Chalke, Jenna Dewan, Michelle Buteau, Carrie Coon, and Live emcee Déjà Vu.
Ripa did not address her recent surgery or recovery process during Monday’s episode, as it was prerecorded. New episodes aired live when Ripa’s break began on July 27. The entirety of last week’s episodes, however, were all prerecorded.
Just as Monday’s episode was pre-filmed, fans can expect upcoming episodes of the daytime talk show not to air live. According to People, the series is currently on its annual summer break, and episodes now through Labor Day will be pre-filmed. Upcoming episodes will feature new conversations between Ripa and Consuelos, segments that were filmed before the break, and encores of previous celebrity interviews.

Ripa’s first official post-surgery episode will reportedly be Tuesday, September 8, which also marks the show’s Season 39 premiere.
Consuelos previously detailed Ripa’s gum graft surgery recovery during the show’s July 27 episode, revealing that she’s not allowed to talk. “Wow. That’s gotta be the hardest thing that she’s ever done,” Jonas, who was the day’s guest host, joked.
Consuelos shared, “There’s a list of things that you’re not allowed to do — talking, she has to eat soft food, you can’t suck out of a straw. You can’t examine it, which means pulling down the lip. And so, last night, she’s like, ‘Can you look?’ I’m like, ‘I’m not pulling your lip down.’”
Jonas asked, “Is there pain?” Consuelos responded, “Yeah, it’s painful. But she famously doesn’t feel pain. When she goes into the dentist, she doesn’t really use the Novocain. But this one hurts, so I know it’s bad.” Jonas wrapped up the topic by stating he is “wishing her well.”
Fans sent Ripa their well-wishes via social media at the time. “I’ve had this surgery! It’s not fun and I put it off for years too,” one user commented underneath a clip on the show’s Instagram page on July 27. Another added, “Praying you have a fast recovery. My day isn’t complete when you’re not there.”
Someone else shared, “Hope you have a speedy recovery, @kellyripa, and continually decreasing pain.” A different person posted, “Wishing you a speedy recovery and hope you are not in too much pain! @kellyripa.” A separate commenter shared, “Had my gum graft surgery two weeks ago! Not fun! Tell her to hang in there!”
