What To Know
- NBC’s Today remained the top-rated morning show for the week of June 8, despite ABC airing the highly watched NBA Finals.
- ABC’s Good Morning America saw a 6% viewership increase to 2.87 million but still trailed Today.
- CBS Mornings dropped to 1.65 million viewers, marking one of its lowest recent ratings.
Despite ABC airing the NBA Finals last week, which averaged 20.6 million viewers, it wasn’t enough to boost ABC News’ Good Morning America ahead of NBC News’ Today show.
According to Variety, citing Nielsen’s national live+same-day big data plus program ratings for the week of June 8, Good Morning America, co-hosted by Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, and Michael Strahan, averaged 2.87 million total viewers and 486,000 viewers in the coveted Adults 25-54 demographic.
While the show did increase by 6 percent, or 167,000 viewers, compared to the previous week, it still trailed Today.
Today, co-hosted by Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin, averaged 3.06 million total viewers and 682,000 demo viewers for the week of June 8. The show was up 3 percent, or 91,000 viewers, on the week prior, putting it at the top spot among the morning shows.
Meanwhile, CBS Mornings, co-hosted by Gayle King and Nate Burleson, averaged 1.65 million total viewers and 264,000 demo viewers for the week of June. According to Nielsen data, the show was down 47,000 viewers from the week before and marks one of the lowest CBS Mornings in recent memory.
CBS Mornings has been one of the shows under the spotlight in recent months due to the ongoing upheaval at CBS News. Earlier this year, Tony Dokoupil left the show after being promoted to the new anchor of CBS Evening News. There was also back-and-forth drama surrounding King and whether she’d remain with the show going forward.
CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss has made significant changes at the network since taking the position in October 2025. This included the firing of several key 60 Minutes staffers last month, such as executive producer Tanya Simon and correspondents Cecilia Vega and Sharyn Alfonsi.
Earlier this month, veteran 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley aired his frustrations with Weiss during a staff meeting. He was subsequently terminated “for cause, effective immediately.”
