Dr. Ben Grant is officially on staff at Westside this season, with Blair Underwood a new series regular for Doc Season 3, premiering on September 22, and the new trailer not only offers a look at him at work but also teases his and Dr. Amy Larsen’s (Molly Parker) personal relationship … which she doesn’t remember, since she lost eight years of memories in a car accident two years ago.
But Amy’s also contending with being co-chief residents with Dr. Sonya Maitra (Anya Banerjee) to a new group of interns, played by recurring guest stars Barrett Carnahan, Raffa Virago, Cecilia Lee, and Kolton Stewart. Amy introduces herself before telling them, “This is a calling. It is for me. We’re going to find out if it is for you.”
Ben has come to Westside to, as he puts it, take over the department. He even tells the board, “Dr. Larsen is not a draw, in her current capacity.” But what’s going to happen when Amy starts having memory flashes of their past relationship … especially since he says, “We barely know each other”? Doc also stars Omar Metwally as Dr. Michael Hamda, Amirah Vann as Dr. Gina Walker, Jon Ecker as Dr. Jake Heller, and Patrick Walker as Dr. TJ Coleman.
The new interns are: Carnahan as Graham Barker, described as “entitled, smooth, charming, and driven to prove that he’s more than just the nepo baby of one of the hospital’s wealthy donors”; Virago as Nikki De Silva, “wound tight: an overachiever, sharp, and quick-witted”; Lee as Ruth Chen, “empathetic, eager, kind, she cheers the other interns on,” and “though she’s highly intelligent, she can get frazzled when she’s overwhelmed”; and Stewart as Kyle Ferguson, “the youngest of the interns” who is “brilliant, humble, a fish out of water because he was homeschooled,” as well as “direct, sincere and guileless.”
Ahead of the new season, executive producers Barbie Kligman and Hank Steinberg previously told TV Insider, “Last season, Amy’s memories were a warning sign sparked by triggering moments, but this season her memories are more tied to emotional moments from her past that meant a great deal to her, including her relationships with Blair Underwood’s Ben Grant, Jake Heller, and ex-husband Michael Hamda. These memories may be less physically taxing on her body, but they will spike emotional reactions that will permeate throughout the season.”
