What To Know

  • Former HGTV star Galey Alix teased that she has a handful of new projects currently in the works.
  • Alix launched her one-season HGTV series, Home in a Heartbeat, in 2023.
  • Alix previously opened up about her decision to pull the plug on the show ahead of Season 2.

Galey Alix‘s time on HGTV may have been short, but she’s kept herself busy with a handful of exciting new projects.

Alix opened up about designing her at-home studio and her new book, You Can Do Beautiful Things, in an interview with People published on Tuesday, June 16. While speaking about her current projects, Alix hinted at more things to come.

“I have a lot of exciting things,” she teased. Referring to her recent studio makeover, she added, “Actually tackling it and finishing it and loving it, I’m proud of myself for taking the focus off of other people’s homes for a little bit and actually just sitting down and working on mine. So yeah, I’m happy, I’m relieved, and I’m proud.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Alix admitted that she used to feel “insecure” about her design skills, having not studied design in school. “The idea of creating an actual design studio in my house was kind of like the last full commitment to owning that this is me now,” she declared. “This is my career. This is who I am.”

Alix rose to fame by sharing her home renovation and design projects on social media before landing her own HGTV series. Home in a Heartbeat with Galey Alix premiered in 2023 and followed the former Wall Street executive as she helped homeowners give their properties new life in just a few days.

Despite the show’s success, Alix announced in October 2024 that she had shut down production on Season 2. In an interview with People at the time, Alix explained that her “nervous system was completely shutting down” as a result of working on the series. “By the end of the show, I realized, I don’t have a nervous system; I am a nervous system,” she stated.

Alix noted that she did not blame HGTV for the show’s end, but rather took all responsibility for the decision. “I feel like I set myself up for failure, because I wanted to renovate whole homes in 72 hours with my team,” she said. “But I’m also a perfectionist with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), which means I’m not going to let us cut any corners. We’re not going to throw things up, do it quickly and not make it perfect because I don’t have enough time. It had to be right.”

She continued, “It’s like trying to build a plane while also flying it. It was really, really taxing. And I just couldn’t stomach it. It got to a point where it was just like, I don’t think I’d survive a season 2. … I can’t do Home in a Heartbeat, because my heart will stop beating.”

Alix previously shared in a March 2025 Instagram Q&A that she’d be interested in returning to the small screen. In response to a fan who asked, “When will you do your show again I miss watching it,” she replied, “I have a feeling we’ll do another show again.. but it will have to be a different premise. Maybe people submit a loved one who deserves a makeover & we surprise them without them evening knowing we’re coming! But we need more sleep, so maybe a week turnaround instead of a weekend!”

In addition to releasing her book, Alix has continued her home design work off the small screen through her company, Galey Alix Design. “Galey Alix Design is a full-service and full-heart design company that transforms homes + hearts,” the business’s website reads. “The vast majority of projects are completed over a long (and sleepless) 3-day weekend.”
