The Way Home Has One Episode Left, and These Questions Still Won’t Leave Me Alone

- Advertisment -

We only have one more night to jump into the pond and lose ourselves in the histories of the Landrys, Augustines, and Goodwins.

As much as I’d love answers, I already know we’re not getting all of them. The cast and creative team have said as much, and, truthfully, a finale that spent two hours checking off mysteries on a list wouldn’t feel much like The Way Home anyway.

At its heart, The Way Home has never been about solving a puzzle. It’s been about family, understanding the people who came before us, healing old wounds, and discovering how moments separated by centuries can still shape who we become.

That’s why these questions remain.

They’re not simply plot threads but the stories that still feel unfinished, the people whose lives we only glimpsed, and the moments that seem just beyond our reach.

Over four seasons, the writers made us care deeply about Port Haven and the generations who called it home.

The actors brought those characters to life so fully that many of them feel less like television characters and more like old friends we’ve known forever.

Maybe that’s why it’s so difficult to let go.

Even if this is truly the end, I can’t help wishing for a few more answers before the final credits roll.

Sure, we’ll learn what happens to Elliot. We’ll likely see Del find peace with her past and step more confidently into her future. Alice will make decisions about her own path forward.

But these are the questions still rattling around in my head. The mysteries that continue to tug at me every time I think about this world and the people who inhabit it.

And if they remain unanswered, they’ll probably stay with me every time I revisit Port Haven.

The Missing Generation

This weighs heavily on me. Surely, I can’t be the only one.

The more I think about it, the stranger it becomes that an entire generation of Port Haven’s most important families is practically missing from the story.

We know generations of Landrys, Augustines, and Goodwins. We’ve traveled centuries into the past. We’ve met ancestors, descendants, long-lost relatives, and family friends who changed the course of history.

Yet somehow, the people who raised Colton, Evelyn, and Vic remain little more than shadows.

We know more about Del’s parents from outside of Port Haven than we’ve ever learned about those at the very heart of Port Haven.

Was there a story lurking just beneath the surface, waiting to be revealed? If the TV gods smile upon us and another network picks up the series, could this be the chapter that finally gets told?

Because I can’t help imagining it.

Fern brought so much warmth, wisdom, and joy to every scene she graced. The idea of her raising a child of her own is easy to picture.

What lessons did she pass down? What stories did she tell? How much of Colton came from the people who came before him?

And what about Evelyn’s parents? Why was she so often alone at Lingermore? Did they mirror the descendants of the Goodwins Jacob encountered in the 1800s? Were they part of the reason Lingermore became such a lonely place?

(©2026 Hallmark Media/Photographer: Peter Stranks)

Then there’s Vic. After losing Tessa, he seemed to retreat from the world entirely, turning away from the son he once adored. Was that grief alone, or was it part of a family pattern that began long before we met him?

Maybe none of these answers are essential.

But The Way Home has always been about understanding how one generation shapes the next. Leaving such a significant piece of that puzzle unexplored feels like walking past a locked door and never finding out what’s on the other side.

What can I say? I still want to experience it all through the pond.

Why Was Griffin the Black Sheep of the Landry Family?

(©2026 Hallmark Media/Photographer: Michael Tompkins)

What was it about Griffin that made him such an outsider within the Landry family?

The more we’ve learned about him, the less that label seems to fit. From what we’ve seen, Griffin was adventurous and restless. He marched to the beat of his own drum and wasn’t afraid to take risks. But that’s a far cry from the kind of behavior that usually tears families apart.

Yet somewhere along the way, something happened.

When Griffin returned to Port Haven, it was clear there was more to his estrangement from Colton than simple distance or the passage of time. There was hurt there, and regret. It seemed like the kind of wound that never fully heals, even when both people wish it would.

But what caused it?

(Hallmark Media/Screenshot)

Did Griffin have a falling out with the generation of Landrys we never got to meet? Did something happen during Colton’s childhood that permanently altered their relationship? Or was Griffin carrying secrets of his own that pushed him away from the people he loved most?

The Way Home has always been about family, forgiveness, and understanding the people who came before us. Griffin is just as important to that legacy as anyone else we’ve met, yet his story still feels unfinished.

The tragedy is that he spent so much of his life separated from the son and grandson he clearly loved. I’d love to know why.

Because understanding what broke the Landrys apart might be just as important as understanding what eventually brought them back together.

To What Lengths Did Colton Go to Get Jacob Back? How Much Did He Know?

We know parents will go to the ends of the earth to find a missing child.

Colton Landry had access to something even more extraordinary: a pond that could carry him through time.

Yet somehow, we still know very little about what he actually did to find Jacob.

We know he traveled. Susanna’s drawing proves that. We know he understood far more about the pond than anyone realized. We know he carried secrets for years, perhaps even decades.

What we don’t know is how far he went.

Did he spend his final months searching for Jacob through time? Did the pond refuse to show him what happened? Did he uncover pieces of the truth only to learn there was nothing he could do to change it?

Or did he stop himself from looking altogether, afraid of what he might discover?

(©2025 Hallmark Media/Photographer: Peter Stranks)

The image of Colton watching his family from the bushes has haunted me ever since we saw it. That moment suggested a man who had traveled far more than we knew.

He was a man quietly carrying knowledge he couldn’t share, checking on the people he loved from moments in time that weren’t his own.

How often did he do that? How much did he see? And perhaps most importantly, how did he live with it?

How did he spend years beside Del, grieving the same son, while keeping the pond’s existence to himself? How did he resist jumping again and again in search of answers?

Maybe that’s what fascinates me most about Colton. We know the depth of his love for his family. We know the lengths parents will go to for their children. Yet one of the most important journeys in the series remains largely untold.

If there’s one mystery that still feels like a missing chapter rather than an unanswered question, it’s this one.

What, If Anything, Happened in the Future to Drive KC to the Past?

(©2026 Hallmark Media/Photographer: Michael Tompkins)

The more I think about KC’s story, the less convinced I am that we’ve been told the whole truth.

At one point, KC suggested that visiting the past was simply a chance to experience the Landry family firsthand. After all, future generations seemed to speak about them with almost mythical reverence. Who wouldn’t be curious?

But KC’s actions tell a different story.

Their first appearance wasn’t about sightseeing. It was about saving the farm and putting events back on the right path.

That suggests knowledge, purpose, and maybe even responsibility.

So what happened in the future that sent KC back in the first place?

(Hallmark Media/Screenshot)

Did future generations know how close the Landrys came to losing everything? Were stories passed down about the role KC played in preserving the family’s future? Did someone reveal that KC had already traveled back and changed events, creating a loop that had to be fulfilled?

And then there’s Sam.

KC didn’t merely trust him. KC trusted him with knowledge that could change how he viewed the world. That raises even more questions about what future generations know and what they’ve chosen to keep hidden.

I realize one of The Way Home’s central lessons is that we aren’t supposed to know our futures. But this family has never played by ordinary rules.

If the finale gives us one more glimpse of what lies ahead for the Landrys, I’ll happily take it.

Did Evelyn Ever Find Peace?

(©2024 Hallmark Media/Photographer: Peter Stranks)

We’ve spent years unraveling the mysteries of Port Haven, but one question still lingers in my mind.

Did Evelyn Goodwin ever truly find peace?

As a young woman, Evelyn was open-hearted, hopeful, and endlessly fascinated by the people she loved. She dreamed of magic, believed in possibility, and quietly carried her feelings for Colton, even after he chose Del.

By the time we met her as an adult, much of that light seemed gone.

The friendship between Evelyn and Del had fractured. Lingermore felt more like a monument to old hurts than a home. Even her conversations carried the weight of years spent dwelling on what might have been.

But there were moments that suggested something deeper.

Did Evelyn ever figure out that Alice was a time traveler?

(©2024 Hallmark Media/Photographer: Michael Tompkins)

Did she recognize that the young woman who drifted in and out of her life during its most important moments wasn’t simply passing through town? Did she understand that the magic she’d always sensed was real?

Or did she choose, like Nick eventually did, to keep what she knew to herself? Maybe that’s not even the most important question.

What I really want to know is whether Evelyn found peace before the end. Whether she was able to let go of old heartbreaks and old rivalries and remember the joy she once found in the people around her.

Evie became one of my favorite characters because she felt so human. Her mistakes were understandable, her loneliness was palpable, and her longing was familiar.

If this is truly goodbye, I’d love to know that she found the happiness that eluded her for so long.

And if Alice and Max somehow find their way to each other someday, I’d like to think Evelyn would be smiling somewhere, knowing a little bit of magic lived on.

Who the Heck is Claire?

(©2026 Hallmark Media/Photographer: Peter Stranks)

I realize this is probably the least important question on this list.

Claire isn’t a Landry. She doesn’t own a mysterious estate. She isn’t lurking around Port Haven with a secret family connection. As far as we know, she has never jumped into the pond.

And yet, I need answers.

For years, Nick talked about Claire as if he couldn’t wait for everyone to meet her. Every mention made her sound thoughtful, adventurous, and completely capable of keeping up with a man who spent his life sailing around the world.

So where was she? Why did we hear so much about her and never really get to know her?

Maybe my curiosity stems from the fact that Nick was one of the show’s great romantics. Long after Alice disappeared from his life, he carried the memory of their brief relationship with him. Not in an unhealthy way, but in the way people sometimes carry their first great love.

That makes Claire fascinating. Who was the woman who convinced Nick to stop looking backward and start looking ahead? How did they meet? What did she see in him? More importantly, what did he see in her?

I have a feeling Claire wasn’t a replacement for Alice. Nobody could be. But I’d wager she shared some of the same qualities — Intelligence, curiosity, and a willingness to challenge him when he needed it.

Nick deserved a great love story of his own. Everything we’ve heard suggests Claire was part of it.

So yes, while everyone else is busy demanding answers about time travel and family secrets, I’ll be over here wondering about the woman who stole the heart of one of Port Haven’s most lovable dreamers.

Judge me if you must.

What Happened to Thomas?

Looking at Kat - The Way Home Season 2 Episode 9

We know a bit about what happened to Thomas. We know he had children, as Jasper Coyle was supposed to be a descendant of Thomas’s. Yet somehow, we still know almost nothing at all.

Who did he marry? Did he find happiness? Or did he spend the rest of his life chasing the memory of a woman who quite literally vanished from his world?

Thomas wasn’t simply another love interest. By the end of his story, he understood Kat in ways few people ever could. He knew her secrets. He believed the impossible because he’d seen it with his own eyes.

Then one day she was gone.

We spent years looking for traces of him. Every Coyle. Every lighthouse reference. Every mysterious figure standing in the background became a potential clue that Thomas was still shaping the story from afar.

Maybe that was never the point. Maybe his story was simply about loving someone enough to let them go.

But if this truly is goodbye, I’d still like to know what became of the man who spent his life looking toward the horizon.

Did he build a family? Did he tell stories about Kat? Did he spend his final years believing she’d somehow find her way back to him?

Some endings deserve more than a footnote.

What IS the Pond?

(©2026 Hallmark Media/Photographer: Peter Stranks)

This is the ultimate mystery, isn’t it? Not so much who jumps, where they land, or even even how the pond works.

But why does it exist at all? Four seasons later, we know more about what the pond does than what it is.

We know certain people can use it. We know it seems to have rules. We know it nudges travelers toward specific moments. We know it occasionally feels less like a doorway and more like a force with a mind of its own.

But why?

Was it created? Is it a gift? A punishment? A second chance handed down through generations of Landrys?

Every journey through the pond has ultimately led to healing.

(©2025 Hallmark Media/Photographer: Peter Stranks)

Families have been reunited. Old wounds have been exposed. Long-held resentments have been confronted. The pond never seems interested in making life easier. It seems interested in making people understand each other.

It all makes me wonder whether the pond was ever about time travel at all. Maybe it exists to mend what was broken.

Maybe every generation of Landrys inherits the same responsibility: to face the past honestly enough that the future has a chance. But then we drift back to the pesky missing generation, and I’m left scratching my head again.

Or maybe I’m giving a magical puddle far too much credit.

Either way, before the final credits roll, I’d love to know whether the pond is simply a phenomenon or whether it has been quietly guiding this family all along.

(©2026 Hallmark Media/Photographer: Peter Stranks)

Because once you answer that question, every other mystery would suddenly look different.

Maybe that’s the beauty of The Way Home.

Not every mystery needs a definitive answer. Every story doesn’t need to be wrapped up neatly with a bow. Some questions remain because they keep the characters alive in our imaginations long after we’ve said goodbye.

Still, if the finale manages to answer even one or two of the questions on this list, I’ll consider it a gift.

For now, all that’s left is one final trip to Port Haven, one last journey through the pond, and one more chance to spend time with a family that has captured our hearts for four unforgettable seasons.

(©2026 Hallmark Media/Photographer: Peter Stranks)

But enough about me.
