Joe Scarborough blasted Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) on Monday’s (August 10) edition of Morning Joe for casting the key vote that saw Todd Blanche confirmed as U.S. attorney general.
Blanche, President Donald Trump‘s former personal attorney, won confirmation in a tight 50-49 vote, ending a lengthy standoff between Senate Republicans and the Trump administration. Two Republican senators, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, joined Democrats to oppose the nomination, while Cassidy cast the deciding vote in Blanche’s favor.
Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski said the nomination “essentially came down to one vote, Republican Senator Bill Cassidy,” which provoked a huge laugh from Scarborough.
“So he’ll be responsible in history for RFK Jr. and the lunacy there and the attorney general that will conduct more retribution campaigns than anyone else in American history as well,” Scarborough added.
The MS NOW anchor was referring to the February 2025 nomination for the U.S. Health Secretary, where Cassidy was the deciding vote in confirming Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in the position.
“Good on ya, Bill,” Scarborough sarcastically quipped.
Brzezinski continued her report, saying that Cassidy was “defending his tearful vote,” but Scarborough interrupted.
“No, there’s no defense of it, Bill!” he stated. “There’s no defense of RFK Jr. I really… seriously, what was it worth for you? We’ll find out.”
Scaborough has previously spoken out against RFK Jr, calling him out on air for his lies. After a Senate hearing last September, the host said of RFK Jr’s speech, “As the senators said themselves, a lot of lies. [Kennedy] just lied repeatedly, according to the senators, according to the Republicans.”
RFK Jr appeared before the Senate to face questions about alterations he made to America’s vaccination policy and firings of health experts at the Centers for Disease Control. The heated proceedings saw the Health Secretary accused of lying and spreading falsehoods about the negative effects of vaccines.
