If you thought TV’s fascination with hockey was over, think again. Now, Netflix is getting in on the hockey craze with its upcoming series The Sticks.

What is The Sticks about?
The coming-of-age TV series aren’t slowing down whatsoever. The Sticks is joining the expanding list of YA titles at Netflix.
The official logline reads: “After tragedy shatters a small Minnesota hockey town, a grieving wife steps behind the bench of the team her husband built, guiding a found family of wounded young athletes through a season of loss, love, and rivalry that will decide whether South Dorothy has anything left to believe in, and who will lead it into its next chapter.”

Creator and executive producer Nick Naveda told Tudum in a statement, “The Sticks is about a lot of things. Hockey, family, love, loss, class, and coming of all ages. But above all, it’s a story about community and the importance of taking care of one another. Seeing this terrific cast of actors bring their characters to life with such curiosity, empathy, and tenderness has been incredibly moving to watch, and I can’t wait for the world to meet the people of South Dorothy.”
When will The Sticks premiere?
The Sticks doesn’t have an official premiere date yet, but we do know it will debut in 2027. Heated Rivalry, Off Campus, and The Sticks in 2027? Hockey is already the TV theme of 2027.

The previously announced cast includes Michelle Monaghan as Harper Sullivan, Emilie Bierre as Riley Sullivan, Shai Chase as Henry Sullivan, Josh MacQueen as Rhett Nelson, Costa D’Angelo as Owen Boone, Carter Shimp as Austin Ryder, Ethan Holder as Cooper Cunningham, Isaac Arellanes as Manny Rodriguez, Chloe Avakian as Izzy Miller, Caleb Baumann as Elu, River Codack as Tyler Walker, Angus Albinati as Jack McGrath, and Callum Orchison as Derek Marchbanks.

Netflix revealed three new series regulars on August 10: Scott Bakula as Coach Brody Hansen, Logan Marshall-Green as Coach Sully, and Alex MacIsaac as Emma Boone. Recurring cast members include Bryan Greenberg as Cliff Barnes, Chelsea Field as Alice Hansen, Patrick Gallagher as Principal Montgomery, Alison Araya as Joan Garcia, Aman Smardon as Kai Becker, Krista Bridges as Frankie Ryder, and Ben Cotton as Mr. Marchbanks.
Naveda, the show’s creator and executive producer, wrote the screenplay for 2020 coming-of-age romantic drama Words on Bathroom Walls. Bridget Bedard, the showrunner and executive producer, was previously the showrunner of Ramy Season 1 and was the co-showrunner of Love Life Seasons 1 and 2. Executive producers also include Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Robert Atwood for 21 Laps.
