Broadway and Big Brother star Frankie Grande took a grande hit to the face with a prop from his stage show Titaníque. He shared his injury online and gave fans an update on his return.
“Serving face, literally!” Grande wrote on Instagram on July 6. “In Thursday’s showstopper moment, I launched the wheel into the air… and my nose caught it before my hands did!”
“Turns out, being gay doesn’t give me catching superpowers. So, I gave myself a little ‘ouchie’ (okay, maybe a concussion). Out of the show ’til tomorrow. Catch you soon, my loves!”
Ariana Grande‘s brother posted a photo from Titaníque with him in a sailor’s hat, holding up a pink sparkly boat wheel. The second photo was a shirtless selfie of him in his bathroom mirror with a big gash on his nose. The final picture was of him lying down, making a pouting expression. There were bloody cuts on his left eye and nose.
Grande originated the dual role of ship captain Victor Garber and surreal ship builder/plumber Luigi (as in, Super Mario Bros. Luigi) ever since the off-Broadway musical opened in 2018. It came to Broadway earlier this year, with Grande reviving the role.
This means that he also came up with the stunt of throwing the pink wheel in the air and catching it, but even accidents happen to professionals.
The injury happened during Celine Dion‘s jukebox musical’s “I Drove All Night” number. His character steers the Ship of Dreams and usually catches the wheel.
Titaníque is a retelling of the 1997 film, Titanic, set from Dion’s point of view, who penned the song “My Heart Will Go On” for the movie. Jim Parsons, Deborah Cox, Marla Mindelle, Melissa Barrera, and more also star in the play. The musical is set to close on Broadway on September 20, so get your tickets now if you want to see the star-studded cast.
Fans reacted to his injury in the comments. “OMG!” one fan said.
“MY DIVA IS DOWN! Sending all my love,” another wrote.
“Get better soon,” many commented.
“I thought someone punched you and was about to give them a piece of my mind!!! Hope you heal soon! Love you,” a fourth added.
“Nope. Just me hurting myself again lol!” Grande replied.
